Re: Where is gun while you drive ?
I found a small zipped case made for a portable backup drive at TJ MAX for $5.00. My PF9 and extra mag fits in it perfectly. It rides in the drivers door pocket. No one can tell whats inside! And I can carry it around without any suspicion.
Weapons list suppressed.....

Another inexpensive, simple mount:
Uncle Mike's left hander, rubber doughnuts, a few screws
The small piece of material covers the screw heads.

I think all these setups are great. However, I don't drive a car nor a truck with captains seats. I have an older F-150 with a bench seat. Ideas where to store the gun?

I carry in a Supertuck. I may take a Fobus holster and mount it inside the console in the wife's car, similar to what is shown, but concealed all the time.

You can also mount a holster under/behind your steering wheel, or the front of your seat, or overhead, or...

Yep, Just tuck it down between the seat back and the seat bottom (where the two meet) with the grip accessiblegrad_Student wrote:I think all these setups are great. However, I don't drive a car nor a truck with captains seats. I have an older F-150 with a bench seat. Ideas where to store the gun?

Re: Where is gun while you drive ?
I have a Sigma .40 that I bought specifically to keeo in my truck. I keep it in an el cheapo nylon holster in the driver side door panel while I am driving and locked in the glovebox when I'm not. If I am carrying IWB, it is just quicker to reach down to the door panel than to fool with my shirt and the seatbelt. I have thought about getting an AK pistol to keep in the truck but haven't made the move just yet.

Re: Where is gun while you drive ?
If you have a lightweight backup (I.E. S&W 642) you can easily just put it up under the sun visor. It is light enough that it does not drag the visor down and very easy to deploy especially towards someone approaching your driver's door.
When I come to DFW, I usually have my 1911 in the holster at 4 o'clock and my 642 in an ankle holster. When I get in the truck, I take the 642 and put it above the visor.

I'm the same (except I use a Crossbreed Supertuck). I find the draw a little more difficult, when seated, but by no means impossible.joe817 wrote:I keep mine holstered on me. I'm a lefty and I carry in the appendix position(10 o'clock) in a Don Hume IWB holster. The seat belt is below my waistline, so drawing is no problem.
That said, sometimes my dress isn't appropriate for IWB carry, so I'll go out with just my LCP, pocket carried. I should probably give some thought to how I might access that, if needed.

Re: Where is gun while you drive ?
I have just finished reading "The Gun digest Book of Concealed Carry" by Massad Ayoob. In this great book, Mr. Ayoob recommends wearing a backup gun in an ankle holster when driving.
An ankle holster is easy to access when seated, and faster than an IWB in this position (especially when seatbelted).
He emphasizes that the ankle holstered gun is for backup, not for primary carry.

I wonder if that would still hold true with cowboy boots? Have to get a cheap ankle holster and test it.Vic wrote:I have just finished reading "The Gun digest Book of Concealed Carry" by Massad Ayoob. In this great book, Mr. Ayoob recommends wearing a backup gun in an ankle holster when driving.

Re: Where is gun while you drive ?
I wear cowboy boots on most days, so I may have to try that with my 642. I like the idea of an ankle holster for the car - I really, really, really hate to arm/disarm in the car. I'm always worried about somebody walking by and seeing the gun. I had to drive around for a while in downtown Austin until I could find a parking area that wasn't full of people. Due to work, I have to park in lots with high rates of break-ins so I don't like the idea of having a dedicated car/truck gun.chartreuse wrote:I wonder if that would still hold true with cowboy boots? Re: Where is gun while you drive ?
I carry IWB 3:00; and another crossdraw; but the easiest to get to while in the car, would be my Safepacker on the Seatbelt. When I get to the store, it can go on my gunbelt; when I get to church, I hand carry it like an extra Bible. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
