Need Opinons on .22 caliber hand gun

One other option is a .22 conversion kit. They are not cheap, but allow you to use the frame of a full size SA and that is a plus.

Jonathan Arthur Ciener makes some pretty good kits for various makes. I have used one on a 1911 and they function pretty well.

Bought an XD40svc and got tired of supporting the high cost of .40 ammo. Then bought a Sig Mosquito even though many reviews were not good for it's accuracy or reliability. Maybe I got one of the good ones. Shot great and the size and design made it a good "practice" gun and was able to switch back and forth from it to the XD40 with no issues. I did finally decide to trade it for a Buckmark Camper 5.5" with a Hy-Viz front sight. The big drawback to the Sig was that the front sight is so small that my 60 yr old eyes just couldn't focus on it after a couple of mags. The plastic sight is pushed into the slide and there were no options for better front sights available-per conversation with Sig. Hated to let it go but am extremely happy with the Buckmark.

If you get a Buckmark or Ruger MkIII you might want to consider the Ultimate Loader so your thumbs will survive all the reloading you will be experiencing. (Ebay for $17.50 plus shipping)

Don't listen to all of those that talk about the "lowly" 22. I am sure that far more people are killed by this caliber than any other, war withstanding. Now get a 22 rifle! That is where the real fun is!

All that said, don't plan on carrying the 22 for CHL, unless you are an assassin! With a name like Blackwidow, I guess you could be.

It sounds like you are on the right track with the XD9. I almost bought that one until I realized that I liked single action only with a safety. I now have a hi-power. Which is a great gun!

One more plug for the Walther P22. I have had one for about 5 years. I have the compact and it is a great range pistol for defensive shooting. Load a few CCI Stingers or Velocitors and it has a nice snappy recoil that makes is better for training. It will put a nice hammered pair wherever you point.

Gun Tests magazine - Best Guns of 2008 rates the Ruger MK 1116 22LR ($342.00) gives this .22 semi-auto a grade of A+.

Not bad.

This is a practice/plinker pistol in that it has a six inch barrel.
