H&K - looking for feedback

It's been awhile since I've picked up something new and have been looking at picking up an H&K. I've been looking at both a .45 Tactical V1 as well as a P30 in .40. I've only shot a H&K for one mags worth down range and it seemed like a solid gun. I'm interested in hearing more about how they are for reliability, and so on, so any feedback about what you love or hate about 'em would be appreciated.

Any HK like Berettas, you can trust your life with. Just shoot it. I have the HK P30 in 9mm and its my bedroom pistol.

Same here, my P30 is next to me at home and my carry in the cold month. Any HK is a good, reliable gun. Some don't like the trigger of the V3, I like it. All my HK's are V3 or V1 for the USP which translates to V3 of the latrer models.
Just a tip, the P2000 is a good carry option, available in .40 SW and you may be able to find a deal.
The biggest advantage of HK is the parts availability online, see http://hkparts.net

BTW, HK's are easy to work on and easy to clean.

PX4 series are not bad either. I have PX4SC my EDC and PX4 Full Size for competition at the range.

I own two H&K's and have fired several different ones a friend owns. Every one is accurate and built well but expensive and I would not hesitate to buy another one. My latest is an H&K 45 Compact Tacitcal and I love it but I also have an old H&K P2000 that I have no complaints about (in fact, my wife claims this one as here own and likes it better than any handgun I own or have owned over the years and I have gone through many).

IMO the only drawback to the H&K is that the selection of holsters isn't as broad as for the Beretta.

Glad you mentioned that! I hadn't checked yet and as my preference is for Fobus paddle holsters went and checked. Looks like they have models to cover nearly all H&K, but they are currently out of stock. So if I move forward going to have to keep an eye on availability for sure.

i'm sure some will shame me, but i recently bought my first hk and it's the new striker fired vp9. hands down best trigger i've personally pulled! i'm waiting on my ffl guy to get a hold of a p30sk with the real night sights for my carry piece. ive carried a glock 26 for a couple years now but i'm betting the p30sk replaces it.

Am just doing a bit of reading about USP, which sounds interesting. It is a bit difficult to easily compare all of the models and what seems to be a huge number of variants (I'm beginning to feel like I need to spend some time talking with someone who is a whole lot more familiar with why one over another!). If I'm understanding correctly, USP works well with the high pressure of .40 SW and was originally designed with that in mind? And are you saying that V3 also incorporates that in other models? And I "think" that the .45 Tactical is also USP?

Interesting. I've had Glocks for quite awhile, got rid of most of them and just have a 23 as I've always liked .40 SW. I also have a Kimber in .45, but in looking at H&K was thinking about using that for daily carry over the Glock.

yeah and the variant numbers aren't always the same across all models either.
the light lem variant comes highly touted as it gives you the single action pull all the time and IMO would be best for carry as you avoid that super heavy first pull or using a safety.

I hate that I'm having to use Wikipedia for checking some of this, but read that the LEM was for DO only? But they say that you can add the trigger used on any model?

I wore it yesterday for the first time. It is very comfortable and conceals well under a loose T-shirt.

Yupper. I know that some folks don't like paddle holsters in general but I personally haven't run into someone who'd tried the Fobus and didn't like it. I've had probably 8-9 of them because of the various Glocks that I had and two Kimbers and they all worked very weel. And you're right about the retention ability -- the clip bend keeps it from being brute force removed from the belt unless someone is standing in the exactly right position, and the gun retention in the holder is great. When I first tried one it was to try a friends as he swore by them and when I looked at it and how easily the gun slipped in I thought, yeah right....but it works very well. I know that there are other holsters that may provide better retention, but at additional weights and such.
