Glock 34 Gen3 Vs Glock 34 Gen4 for IDPA and CCW ?
Anybody has a Glock 34 Gen3 and a Gen4 with holster? I would like to shoot them so I can decide which one to buy. I don't think any local ranges have them for rent. They have G19, G17, and G26 for rent but not the G34. I'll provide the factory brass cased ammo and you won't have to pay any range fees. I'll even let you shoot some of my Glocks if you'd like; G19, G26, and .22LR Glock. I'm in Dallas at 190 (George Bush) and Beltline and I'm free any weekday morning and some Sunday mornings.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'm sorry, I don't own either G34 (trust me when I say that). It has been my experience though that a person is always better off buying the Gen 4 unless the price point of the Gen 3 is impossible to pass up. Usually they're running within $30 to $40 of each other and for that amount, just go with the Gen 4. If you're going to use it for competition, you will appreciate the Gen 4 magazine release and softer recoil if nothing else. Just my 2 cents worth. Take care and good luck finding what you want.

Frankly, from what I've seen so far, other than grip size, I don't see what the big whoop-dee-do is over Gen4 Glocks. Are they really that much better?
The only comparison in another brand that I can think of is the jump from XD to XD(M) pistols, where there actually are some true upgrades (match grade barrels, cocking indicators, slimmer slide profile, etc., etc.). Are the differences between G3 and Gen4 Glocks as radical as the differences between XD and XD(M) pistols?

To my knowledge, it's the grip, the ambi mag release and the dual recoil springs that were available in the subcompact Gen 3 models. But that's it that I can tell...The Annoyed Man wrote:Frankly, from what I've seen so far, other than grip size, I don't see what the big whoop-dee-do is over Gen4 Glocks. That's what I thought. I can tell you as a lefty shooter myself, that it was easier to adapt myself to using my left index finger to depress a rightie mag release than it has been to adapt myself to using my thumb with an ambidextrous system. I now own three pistols with ambi mag releases (M&P45, XD(M)45, XDS45), and I am no faster, and perhaps actually slower, using my thumb instead of my index finger. Once in a while, I will carry my wife's Gen3 G19 just for grins, and I'm not at all bothered by the rightie mag release.Macgyver wrote:To my knowledge, it's the grip, the ambi mag release and the dual recoil springs that were available in the subcompact Gen 3 models. Re: Glock 34 Gen3 Vs Glock 34 Gen4 for IDPA and CCW ?
I use a G34 Gen 4 for IDPA/USPSA. Contrary to TAM I am a lefty and I am a HUGE fan of the left handed mag release. Also I have long fingers so having the extended backstraps are a big plus to me as well. I have shot Gen3 G34s and they shoot just as well as the Gen4s. I couldn't tell the difference in recoil. I just like the additional features of the Gen4.
As far as CCW: On a rare occasion I have carried it IWB. It carries just fine. The draw isn't awkward either but the full length grip poses a problem for concealment if I'm just in a t-shirt. I'd have the same complaint if it was a G17. I have a Gen4 Glock 19 I carry everyday that does the trick 99% of the time
For the sake of mechanical consistency, sight picture, and muscle memory my G34 and G19 both have: Vogel triggers, Apex extractors, and Speed Sights.

Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.

Re: Glock 34 Gen3 Vs Glock 34 Gen4 for IDPA and CCW ?
I went with a Gen 3 G27 over the Gen 4 for carry. The recoil spring wasn't an issue, and it looked to me like the texture on the Gen 3 could be a little more comfortable IWB, but I have no real basis for comparison. I also preferred the smaller mag release on the Gen 3 for carry. For IDPA/USPSA though, I could see some advantages for the Gen 4.

I have a G34 Gen 4 and a G34 Gen 3, both with Speed Sights installed but I don't have a holster. I live off of Marsh and Beltline so Eagle Range is where I normally go.
I could meet you at Eagle Gun Range but unfortunately my schedule is kind of tight this month. Sunday Oct 19th I am totally booked and Sunday Oct 26th I'll just be getting back into town from a little vacation.
I still work (bummer) so weekday mornings are out unless I am on vacation. Best day for me would be on a Saturday (am/pm) or Sunday morning (if I'm in town).
Just email me if you are interested in trying to meet. I wouldn't have to shoot when I'm there so no need to pay my range fee (I normally go on Tuesday afternoon/evenings during ladies night when it's only $5). I don't mind hanging out while you test the guns, I shoot plenty of ammo on Tuesdays.
