The Coming Crash in Ammunition Prices?
Your thoughts?
http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/0 ... on-prices/
"The Obama-caused bubble in ammunition prices seems ready to bust. Over the last few years gun owners have seen ammunition prices double or even triple. Handgun and rifle ammunition has been hard to find at times and .22 long rifle ammunition tripled in price over the last 18 months. People would line up to buy ammunition at prices two and three times the level that they were just two years ago. But all of that is about to change . . ."

I sure hope he's right so I can go back to firing 250 rounds per range trip instead of 50.jmra wrote:Your thoughts?

Whatever happens, and whenever it happens, I think prices will drop, but will be like gas prices - they my go down, but will never be what they were before the "crisis".

Re: The Coming Crash in Ammunition Prices?
I'm seeing availability improve for everything except 22LR. I haven't bought any in a while so I can't speak to pricing in general. I have noticed 5.56 dropping in price in the email blasts I get...
Last range trip I splurged and shot 200 rounds of 9mm and about 150 rounds of 5.56...
Good news if the article is right...
Thanks for sharing.

Re: The Coming Crash in Ammunition Prices?
I seriously doubt that the bubble is ready to burst. Loaded ammo supplies have improved, but finding gunpowder is next to impossible. Ammunition manufacturers have to use gunpowder too. We have been paying as much as $60/lb of titegroup, a year ago you could find it for $17/lb.
This price is IF you can find it. Titegroup, HP38, Unique, etc. have been almost impossible to find. I have only found this stuff from price gougers on the internet, haven't found one single pound of any of those sitting on a shelf. Some of my friends and I are on contact lists at several suppliers in our area, no powder is available.

He may be correct. I just left a Walmart in CO. They had Winchester white box .45 for $19 box of 50. They had more ammo on the shelf than any TX Walmart I have been in for quite some time.
p.s.
They had ZERO .22lr.

Until there's bulk 22 on the shelf more often than not, the bubble and prices are still inflated.

I view centerfire and rimfire ammunition as two distinct and separate markets, as a rimfire plant cannot be easily or readily re-tooled to produce centerfire ammo, and vice-versa.Fuchs wrote:Until there's bulk 22 on the shelf more often than not, the bubble and prices are still inflated.

That's true but there's a lot of overlap in raw materials. Also, it's hard to blame the 22 shortages on government stockpiling.Jumping Frog wrote:I view centerfire and rimfire ammunition as two distinct and separate markets, as a rimfire plant cannot be easily or readily re-tooled to produce centerfire ammo, and vice-versa.Fuchs wrote:Until there's bulk 22 on the shelf more often than not, the bubble and prices are still inflated.

I think 223 is pretty much as low as it's going to get. I ordered ALOT when it hit $350 per 1k shipped
