I've never quite understood this. Typically during the purchase process you're asked if you're buying it for someone else. I assume if you answer "yes" the purchase is not allowed to continue.Cedar Park Dad wrote: As Keith B said, as long as she can legally own and you're not making a straw man purchase, you're good to go.

Re: Handgun Question
It is legal to buy a gun for someone as a gift as long as the person you are buying it for is legal to own said gun. It's only a true "straw purchase" if the purchase is done on behalf of a prohibited person.cb1000rider wrote:I've never quite understood this. Re: Handgun Question
The purpose of that quesiton is based on the other person putting up the money and you filling out the 4473 for the the gun because they are not able to purchase the gun legally themselves.cb1000rider wrote:I've never quite understood this. The instructions on question 11a of the 4473 specifically states you can buy a gun as a gift http://www.atf.gov/files/forms/download ... 4473-1.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yup. That's what happened to my AR, too...Cedar Park Dad wrote:UpTheIrons wrote:It doesn't matter whose name is on the 4473 for the purposes of a CHL class. The only reason for her to do the paperwork is for her to say that she bought the gun herself, which is not a prerequisite.alrobjr wrote:I want the gun in her name because she has a CHL appointment at the Bass Shop coming up .
My wife did that with her two guns. She insisted on doing the 4473, because that meant they were "hers" and I couldn't swipe them from her.
Strange, this does not seem to work in reverse. I've lost two .22s and a Beretta 9mm that way...
"I don't know how that would ever be useful, but I want two!"
