Re: Found A Gun in NRH
I don't have a lot of extra cash laying around, but I do have enough that I don't need the hassle of keeping or getting back from the police a handgun I found on the side of the street. To be honest, I doubt I would have even touched the gun (don't want my prints on it). I think I would have called 911 ( to ensure the call was recorded) and wait there for LEO to come pick it up.

Guns aren't registered in TX. He would (or at least should) have the same rights to it as he would any other piece of found property.maximus2161 wrote:Now I may be wrong. I am not an attorney, or know what NRHPD's policies are but I dont see how finding a lost firearm would give you rights to it if no one claimed it. But I can bet the PD isnt going to release it to anyone but the person its registered to or the proven owner.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

I bet the PD would disagree and it simply wouldn't be worth going to court over.Dave2 wrote:Guns aren't registered in TX. In which case it goes in the trash.Oldgringo wrote:Finding an holstered handgun in the street would certainly present a serious set of questions for the Oldgringo. I don't know what I'd do but, I suspect giving it to the police would not be at, or near, the top of my list of possible solutions.....unless it was a Glock.

Re: Found A Gun in NRH
Any updates on this? I am very interested to hear the outcome of this story.. I would take it as high up the ranks of the PD as i could, just to see if you can walk away with that gun! Maybe found property rules (laws??) have exceptions for firearms.. I'm sure those exemptions exist for prohibited or controlled items (hand grenades, full auto rifles) but a handgun is neither of those in Texas (right??)
