Who carries their gun with a full mag +1?

I carry my Glocks full Mag plus one in the tube. 1 to 2 extra mags in paddle mag pouch.

Mine are old enough to pull a trigger, but not rack a slide.

You should see how big parents eyes get when they find out they were wrong about that one.

Honestly, I think part of is basic training for me as a kid where I was taught you don't carry a ready-to-fire weapon until you're ready to fire it.

A P7M8 magazine has only 8 rounds to start with, and 9mm at that, so every round counts. Pop in the magazine, rack the slide, drop the magazine, add a round to it and reinsert.

It's a terrific little pistol, especially for lefties, but it does have some drawbacks.

Yeah, they're not sold anymore, I think. The P7M8 was hideously expensive ($~1500), 9 mm, only 8 rounds, plus one if you want, and it gets real hot real fast when fired continuously. OTOH, it is lefty friendly, has the squeeze cocker safety that many bad guys won't be able to figure out if they somehow get it away from you, (I hope!), relatively small and light, and wonderfully accurate to shoot, at least at closer ranges. It's no Bullseye pistol, though.

NJ state police used to issue it, but found that troopers had a proclivity for shooting themselves when drawing it because the act of gripping cocked the striker with no safety mechanism in place. That, combined with the revolver trained officers' habit of putting their fingers into the trigger guard early on the draw led to an unacceptable number of personal perforations (usually in the hindquarters) on the range.

The gun also makes a distinctive "clack" sound when the squeeze cocker is either activated or released. This is not a problem on the range, but it is one giveaway I wouldn't want to carry into dark places in search of bad guys.

The squeeze cocking mechanism also presents another dilemma: If you're holding a gun on someone (as police often have to do), do you keep a good grip on the weapon (in which case you're holding a cocked and unlocked gun pointed at the individual) or do you relax your grip to uncock it and make the gun more vulnerable to a takeaway?

IMHO, it was a cute idea but had too many drawbacks to be truly useful for defensive purposes. The market has spoken on it, and the issue wasn't just price.

On Tee Vee and in the moovies they always have to do something when presenting a weapon, either racking the slide or cocking the hammer back (even with Glocks. ) Maybe that is where the idea of an empty chamber comes from. My pistol will not make any noise until it goes bang. I carry a Kahr K9 with 7+1+7 that I carry, always topped off.

On the other hand, my home defense shotgun is a Mossberg 500 with an empty chamber, hammer dropped, and a full magazine of 00 Buckshot - also known as "cruiser ready." Not that I believe the magic sound of a 12 gauge being racked will scare off the bad guys, just that I practice and shoot skeet and trap in this manner, so I know the manual of arms in a pinch without much thought.

I don't carry all that I can because I suspect that would be a LOT, day-to-day. Granted, that would be backpack carry of the extras not belt carry. Although somebody should be able to tacticool a USPSA type arrangement with four or five magazines concealed on a belt rig.

I don't top off my magazine. For me it is an ease of use issue. When I clear my current carry weapon for whatever reason, is it convenient to store the round from the pipe back in the magazine it came out of. My G26 loads up as 9 plus the one in the pipe. I carry a G17 magazine as a spare. The likelihood that I would go through that round count and then "save the day" with that last additional round is mathematically inconceivable to me as a non-professional (i.e. LEO, military).

I carry (and organize my gear) in a manner that is most likely to guarantee I'll carry all the time. Ease is part of that for me. Making things (even in small quantities) simple may not be the macho thing to do but for me it is the calculated thing to do.

Ruger Sr9c...17+1 in the vehicle when traveling, 10+1 if I'm carrying it.

I always carry with one in the hole, but I never top it off. I've heard of the aforementioned feeding issues, and I really don't think the 1 extra round is worth the risk of a misfeed, jam, or etc, since I usually have the spare mag on my person as well.

If 34 or 51 bullets can't get me to safety then I'm probably done for anyways.
