I have never stepped foot in one believe it or not and I live within 15 minutes of 2 of them in both directions. I usually shop online, walmart, or academy. Have I been missing out on something?

While I cant speak of all the Dick's Sporting Goods, I can say that having spoken to the manager of the store in Allen personally, that Anygun's memory is spot on. They were instructed to pull the AR type rifles from the shelves to return to the distribution center, pending a decision from corporate on whether or not to continue selling them. We left the store wondering where all those rifles were going to go and when or if they would cycle back into the supply stream. That was my last visit to that chain and I haven't found any compelling reason to return.

I bought .223 ammo there a month or so ago. They didn't ask for anything other than if I had their rewards card, and for payment. The price was reasonable too. Around $10 a box. Not cheap, but not CTD gouge prices either.

Dick's made a bad decision to pull AR type guns, that's a given opinion by most gun owners. However, their primary customer base is geared more into hunting which they have kept a steady supply of hunting guns available.

They are one of the few ammo sellers that DID NOT raise ammo prices. Like any other store, supply was a problem. I buy ammo there at the same prices I was paying before the panic.

CTD removed all their online gun sales for over month and their explanation for doing so was not at all well received by customers. Their ammo prices soared to $1/round for 9mm, 45ACP and even .223. But they did try to recruit/sponsor NRA life memberships.

Dick's could have done a little better, CTD should have done a lot better.

Guys! No matter what these companies did, the enemy here is not these 2 companies. It's the anti gun crowd and gun grabbers in our city halls, state capitals and in Washington DC we have to deal with. Direct you anger and energy where it's most needed. Do we need the grabbers to see us as an intolerant mob of gun crazed lunatics? It is time to rise above their petty foolishness and act with intelligence.

There's no need to stop buying your golf clubs or your kid's football uniforms at Dick's, just make your point by purchasing guns elsewhere. Or go buy accessories and prepper supplies at CTD, just quit buying ammo. There are hard working and friendly employees there that had nothing to with policy, they are just trying to earn an honest buck.

Well, that's my two cents.

I was in one last week in New Braunfels. They had no handguns at all, or accessories either.

I wouldn't even know where to get started with CTD. $70 for a box of 124 gr. PMC 9mm FMJ's, forget about it. I bought the same ammo in Jan for $11. I'm going to quit now before I get mad.

I stopped in one when I was working in West-by-gosh-Virginia. Didn't like it then.

We have a Dicks Sporting Goods here in Las Cruces. I looked in once.

It's a giant Big 5 Sporting Goods, only everything is more expensive due to Name Brand being on the merchandise. The firearms/hunting/shooting section was sparse in selection, even compared to my own meager collection, and comprised mainly stuff I can get at Walmart, Big 5, or one of the other Big Name Stores. No real interest for me there, as I already have more hunting rifles than I know what to do with, nor do I have use for most of the specialty hunting ammo they sell, being a handloader. No pistols, at least not that I saw. No real competitive prices on anything I could find a use for, either.

In short, they have nothing I want, and they are very, very proud of that nothing, as shown in their prices. I was annoyed at them for their quisling attitude with reference to ARs and other black rifles, but I had already decided I wasn't going to shop there for a great many other reasons.

I miss the Sportsman's Warehouse we used to have. That place was a giant toy store for me.

I've visited their store at the Domain in Austin. No handguns there either. Very limited selection of long guns.

I agree that Dick's made a poor (politically driven) decision on the rifles, but that's not surprising, given the fear factor at the board level of a publicly traded company. They're not really in the gun business, so they viewed the risk to their overall business portfolio from losing gun sales to be less than the risk of losing the sales of their other merchandise lines purchased by folks who don't give a rip about firearms. That said, they have NOT raised prices on ammo, or other non-black weapons. I'm not a big fan of the store, but it's one of the ONLY places I've been able to find .22 ammo - for PRE-CRAZY prices. I will continue to shop there when I find good deals on stuff.

CTD, on the other hand, IS in the gun business - it's their ONLY business, and they jacked prices on EVERYTHING. They have absolutely been focused on sucking every dollar that they could get out of the gun community; it's called PROFITEERING. I walked into one of their retail stores on the way home from work one evening in December, and there was a Disney World type LINE to buy $6,000 Ruger sr556's, $70 pmags and $3.00 per round .556. They should be ashamed, and be driven from business for bleeding their own constituency for short-term gain. They had a choice, they chose to PROFITEER, rather than build a long-term business that would live beyond the current political brouhaha. I'll not be buying anything from then again. Ever. Many years ago, they actually WERE "cheaper than dirt" for surplus ammo and such, but now are just another full-price retailer, with clearly predatory policies. Just my two cents.....

I had a Sportsman's Warehouse down the road from me. I wish they didn't close. I needed to go shooting in February and when I went to buy handgun ammo they had 4 to 6 different brands in stock for 9, 40, and 45. There was also plenty in stock though they were low on 5.56 and .308 The prices were normal to. Fortunately Cabela's is only about 20 minutes away. I was there a couple of weeks ago and they had 22 in stock and plenty of 1000 round cases of the M193 and the 420 round ammo cans of M855.
