Been wanting a Ruger but can't find one, so found this at Academy in Lufkin. Springfield 1911-A1. I've had it 3 days and cant shoot it since the 4 gun stores I've been to have zero .45. I did pick up some .223, 5.56 and .40 but not a single .45 round to be found.

IMO, the SA is a better 1911 than Ruger anyway. I'll take a forged frame and slide over a cast frame and slide any day.

looks like the range officer. my father in law owns one and i shoot it often - FANTASTIC weapon, feels like a tank in my hands. very accurate, i bought him a fiber optic front sight - still need to have it installed - i think that will help his accuracy tremendously.

Nice Springfield and a NM (finished and assembled in the US of A - albeit Illinoid ) frame! Great pistol that will give you many satisfying trips to the range. I will PM you a place to buy ammo.

Yes, it is a Range Officer, and yes it feels like a tank holding it ;)

I'm going to call around and may take a trip to Marshall today. There's a pawn shop that usually has a wall full of ammo (he's the only place around here I can find 5.7 ammo).

It's missing a thumb safety on the "correct" side , but other than that, nice gun!

I have a "Loaded" model similar to that one. It's a keeper. One thing I've found that Springfield 1911's seem to be able to benefit from is a light trigger job. My trigger originally was heavier than advertised, around 6.5 lb if I remember correctly. It broke cleanly but had a little "grit" in it. I gave it to my son to play with and it came back with a magically crisp 4 lb letoff.

Enjoy yours. I'm down to two 1911s now—this one, and my dad's old sidearm from WW2—but had three at one time. I sold a 3" Kimber to another forum member. 1911s can easily become an addiction if you're not careful, and no collection is truly complete without at least one.

EDIT: One thing you might want to do is blur out the serial number on any gun you're going to display on the Interwebs.

Scored 100 rounds of Winchester 230 gr at Walmart and couldn't get home fast enough ;)

Very accurate right out of the box. I'm not the best marksman but with 7 rounds I was knocking 6 cans off the fence. Recoil actually seems less than my carry gun, an FNX .40. The sights will be replaced with night sights and this will become my carry and the .40 will be my "in the truck" gun.

Recoil actually seems less than my carry gun, an FNX .40.

O_T, that's not actually that uncommon. Many people, myself included, find .45 ACP to be easier to shoot. .40 cal pistols have pretty snappy recoil, and when you combine that with a bullet weight that falls between 9mm and .45 ACP, it can make for disconcerting recoil. I owned a USP Compact .40 for a few years before I finally sold it to pay for another gun. The USP was a fine pistol, and I actually miss mine, but I don't miss the caliber. I much prefer .45.
