Fair Price for Sig P226
What would be a fair price for a Sig P226 chambered in 357Sig, no rail, used, VERY clean/not even really broken in,blued finish, 2.5 boxes of FMJ ammo, Fobus paddle holster. I don't know Sigs very well and I'm trying help out my FIL with a purchase.

Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
I'd say that $550 - $600 is probably a fair price for both buyer and seller for everything. If there are more magazines. It should come with rear night sights and fiber optic fronts along with a hard case. Less money if those have been removed for less quality stuff.

Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
I agree with RX8er other than I would probably say more like the $600.00 if it has everything with it.
Just for information the cheapest place I have found magazines is at:

if they are not in stock he will email you when they come in. Greg is first class and easy to work with.

Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
Unless I missed something in the OP's post I see no reason to look for a fiber optic front sight, it will most likely have a tritium sight on the front. Depending on the age of the gun, the tritium may have gone dark in the sights. Sig's Service plan (Cleaning, sights, springs, ect) is an ok deal, but can be a good deal when you catch it on deal for holidays like fathers day and veterans day. I would say if its German made (look for proof marks) in the current market, 2 standard capacity mags, with good tritium sights along with minimal wear and tear (look under the right grip panel and see if the spring has worn the hole bigger) I would say anything less than $800 is a good deal in my area. A year ago I would have agreed with RX8er and carlson1, but the current market has driven all prices up. Of course the gun I have described is more desirable than average.

I just sold a P226 (9mm) that was W. German and they are more valuable to some. I personally believe the W. Germany models are made better.G.A. I would not go $800.00 for one that was not W. Germany.

Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
You are right about the front sight, my bad. I was thinking another gun when I typed that. Yes, the W. Germany models will be more if you can find a Buyer that is looking for them specifically. With what the OP has posted so far, I stand by my $600 pricing point, maybe add another $50 for the ammo and holster. I think you can find the P226 on the broker sites for this or a little less. If the OP is looking specifically for a WG model, then pricing will be a bit more.G.A. Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
On a German made Sig the serial number will usually be stamped on the slide, barrel (It is usually blind marked), and frame. There will be hallmarks stamped on the bottom of the slides dust cover as well as on the frame near the serial number.

It will be stamped Made In Germany on it as well. I think it is on the slide but will confirm in the morning.

It will be stamped on the side "Made In W. Germany."
You can Google the letters that will be stamped on the slides dust cover if it is a W. Germany and it tells you when it was manufactured.

Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
I know this isn't helpful but I wouldn't spend $5 on anything .357 sig due to ammo cost...
But yes, $600ish seems reasonable for someone out there.

I thought about getting the 357 caliber exchange for mine but changed my mind when I started to look for the ammo.gigag04 wrote:I know this isn't helpful but I wouldn't spend $5 on anything .357 sig due to ammo cost...

Pretty easy to swap in a barrel on those and then you can go 9mm or .40gigag04 wrote:I know this isn't helpful but I wouldn't spend $5 on anything .357 sig due to ammo cost...

Re: Fair Price for Sig P226
Some "U.S. made" sigs are roll marked "Made in W. Germany" or "Made in Germany" as the parts were made in West Germany but assembled and fitted in the U.S. after importation. All guns that are entirely made in Germany will have the proof marks. One advantage of the .357 Sig guns is that you can purchase a .40S&W Barrel that can be fitted to the slide/frame (Make sure the barrel is fitted, and not the slide/frame) then you can switch between .40S&W and .357 Sig with just a simple barrel swap. I would like to point out that W. German guns got the rollmark changed from "Made in W. Germany" to "Made in Germany" with reunification of both halves of the nation. Quality didn't change but W. Germany guns have more collectability value while the latter can be had for less while showcasing the same quality.
