Small carry gun Shield, LC 9, or a small Sig

I took basic and defensive pistol classes this past weekend and started out using my XDs but got eaten alive on the tac reload requirements in defensive pistol. Ended up having to switch to. My XD 9sc to meet the class requirements.

I would be interested in hearing more detail on the issues you had with "the tac reload requirements in defensive pistol". Specifically, the requirements as well as your difficulty. I am getting ready to book a tactical training class and reloading in-drill is part of that.

BHNC...I only had one 7 round and one 5 round mag. I misplaced my other 5 rounder. There were several timed draw from holster drills that required access to no less than 14 rounds so without another mag I was SOL. Next time I will have at least two 7 rounders and two five rounders on two belt clips. In the closed quarters drill in which we weren't allowed a reload, we needed at least 10 rounds.

I am sure you punched plenty of holes in the 8 and 9 rings for the instructor to forgive your magazine transgression.

The XD 9 saved the day, fortunately. However, it's going over to my wife this Valentines Day!

Small guns for me are harder to shoot accurately and they hurt when I shoot them. I know that does not answer your question. I just would conceal a bigger gun imo

I finally made my decision, I just picked up a week ago the M&P Shield in a 40. Shot it yesterday and loved it!!!!

Looking for a small carry gun. The ones I am leaning towards is the M&P Shield, Ruger LC 9 or, a small Sig. Even though you can't find ammo right now I am sticking with 9mm. Your thoughts would be helpful. Texan first American second!

If you want the shield get ready to pay a premium. I was looking at both the shield and the PPS. Leaning toward the PPS but if I read correctly Springfield is releasing a 9mm version of the XDS. Maybe I need all three.

You can get a shield in 9mm online for around $419 my FFL suggested I get one since the price dropped after the recall.

I have a Shield in 9mm and it is a pleasure. I am not for sure if I would want to shoot that small of a pistol in a .40. My hands can't take what they used to be able to.

Personally believe you made a good decision in the Shield .40. I have the M&P40C, Taurus 709 and 740 Slim - all excellent CCW, accurate and reliable - and will eventually own a Shield 9 or 40 or both.

I too will still be looking for it in a 9 for my wife, I hope to get her shooting soon.

I have a Shield 9mm after having a Kel Tec PF9 for a year or so and really like the Shield. Put 400 rounds through it in a 2 day tactical training course when it was only a week old and didn't have any problems with sore hands. (The long trigger pull on the PF9 would have been an issue I think). Had a couple of stove-pipes the 1st day but no problems since and have probably put at least 1000 rounds through it. My only complaint so far is slow custormer service response from S&W when the paint dots came out of the rear sight. Took almost 3 weeks for them to indicate that they would look at it and send a return label but in the process they informed me that normal turn-around was 6 to 8 weeks. I did my own sight dot repair.
