Never thought I would see 9mm more expensive then 10mm. LOL! I already have my ammo on hand and don't need anymore for now but I am seeing $530-550 for 1000 rounds of 9mm and $400 for 1000 rounds of 10mm online. The really crazy thing is that they are selling this! People need to calm down and wait it out. My advice is shoot your uncommon calibers or go out and buy a .38 special. There still seems to be a decent amount online.

The Academy in Plano off 75 is doing the same thing. One box per caliber, up to three boxes total.

I walked into the Academy in Round Rock last Friday morning at 8:02. There were about 30 people already jamming the ammo aisle and they had already snatched up what was there.

Hearing your stories, I may have to try again now.

If you have 9mm,.223 or. 22lr I would not shoot any unless you have enough to last a few months unless you like waiting in line for ammo, or enjoy paying top. dollar for a box. This is going to go on fora while.

Everyone in line seemed genuinely happy that they were able to walk away with something.
As long as Academy, or anyone else, is voluntarily distributing their goods in such a manner the free market police have nothing to complain about. If regulations forced rationing then it would be time for a roast.

Looking to get a 10mm now... cheap ammo! Hahaha

Funny thing. I walked into the Academy in Plano off 75 yesterday at open and they had 17 boxes of 9mm and six boxes of .380. I really didn't need any but went ahead and bought all they had. They said nothing about a limit. I guess the kid at the counter screwed up. Oh yeah... I also bought a five hundred round brick of 22 LR. Almost forgot about that one as I didn't really need any 22 either. I figured somebody is going to buy it and I might as well be the guy with it.

Local Academy over the weekend and saw a sign up with limits info on it for both ammo and guns as I was heading out. Good thing as then at least it is in writing for all to see.

Prior to seeing the sign I overheard the clerk telling someone they couldn't buy another handgun for 7 days anywhere. After they left, I asked and was told it was a NICS thing.... I prodded and said "are you sure it just isn't Academy policy with the rush going on now? Which I completely support and understand..." Guy swore to me it was a NICS thing... ugh... and then to see their store policy sign after the fact showing that it is just their policy.... I usually keep to myself even if I hear bad advice as I wasn't asked for it but I was just curious what their policy was after overhearing a partial conversation.

Feel sorry for those who might actually be wanting a couple of guns and don't know any better.... I'm all about them doing the limits and think it is an awesome thing so that the little guys can get something. They just need to make sure they aren't giving out bad info to someone who might be wanting a second gun and could go down the street and look for it.

Typical sales person spew.... I hate nothing more than being lied to by a sales person... If you get caught in a lie it is much worse than just shrugging it off as "what corporate said to do". I just don't understand why salespeople don't get that. If someone doesn't like a corp decision send them to the manager. That's what they get paid for.... And if you are new or don't know just say so ;-)

(sorry for the rant. just rubbed me the wrong way)(I still love Academy BTW)

I don't think these sales people are lying so much as just talking out of their hats. Most of the folks working at gun stores know less than you do about weapons. Especially places like Academy. The kids are just repeating the garbage they are hearing while smoking cigarettes out back on breaks.

Salesman told a friend of mine there was no such thing as a PM9. Insisted that she was confused and needed a CW9. She pulled out her phone and showed him the website. He said "oh, that's a brand new model, it's not out yet".

Yeah. I know and that's why I normally keep my mouth shut. It's not my job to train them or derail their credibility with a customer. This one just irked me though. I just don't know what the problem is with saying "You know I'm not sure. Let me check real quick." I know its a common theme for these entry level sales jobs at big box stores but I'll take honesty without information over bad information any day.

Maybe I'm just getting curmudgeonly before my time. Feel sorry for the neighborhood kids when I really do reach old age ;-)

now get off my lawn!:

I often hear guys working at all types of sporting goods stores telling prospective customers wrong information. I have to assume they believe the garbage they are spewing. Otherwise I have to assume the best actors in the world, start out working at gun stores. We could have a whole thread filled with some of the ignorance overheard at gun store counters.

So from all of the posts, and my own frustrating experience, I know finding ammo at retail stores is pretty much hit and miss. Has anyone hit the gun shows these past few weekends? Are the ammo dealers still there? Do they have any stock (looking for 40 S&W and .380). If they have stock, are they limiting purchses?

Found some Remington PPU .223 this morning at Walmart on the way to work. They had about 20 boxes of 20 rounds each, but they only let me get 3 boxes. I told a few guys at work. One of them couldn't leave and called a friend to go and check. His friend said they were all gone by the time he got there an hour or so later. I went in hoping to find some .45ACP and ended up with 60 rounds of .223 for about 40 cents/round.
