I don't shoot all my ammo in a week, but I need MORE ammo, so when I want to shoot, I have all the ammo i need!

How much ammo does one need to have before one is considered a hoarder?grumble wrote:Pardon me, I resemble that remark.Superdavetx wrote:or another loon that is hoarding ammo?

Re: ammo on sale
After creating my own personal stockpile of ammo, I would almost never go shoot without buying the ammo to shoot on the way. In other words, my stockpile doesn't ever get depleted or decrease... only increase.
Now that I can't find ammo, I'm not shooting very much. I am shooting some... but not much at all.
This shortage really has to hurt the ranges' business I would imagine.

Wow... I'm glad you guys didn't get offended!
Good question though... How much ammo is too much?
and when one buys a case, how many boxes are in a case???
How much do you guys have? I had two boxes.. They are gone now. I need more... figured I might buy 500 rounds.
Would that be hoarding???

500 rounds of HST might be hoarding. 500 rounds of range ammo is a couple weekends of fun.Superdavetx wrote:Wow... I'm glad you guys didn't get offended!

Re: ammo on sale
I wouldn't say that I hoard. I "buy efficiently" (except lately, I buy when I can find). I honestly don't figure the crunch is going to get much better for a long time. 9mm target ammo has gone from $11 a box to $14-$29 (yes $29 for your average target ammo at some places - bulkammo.com comes to mind - they're nuts).Superdavetx wrote:Wow... At this point I buy what I can when a reasonable price is found. Just took delivery of 3,000 rounds of target quality JHP. It was the same price as FMJ so I figured why not. Just bout a half a dozen 13-round mags for my xd subcompact. I've never been one to worry too much, but seriously, I'm starting to think that WTSHTF is a lot closer than I had planned.
If you're comfortable with a couple of boxes, remember, it's all about what works for you.

Re: ammo on sale
For Self Defense Ammo, I only have about 10 rounds more than my SD mags will hold. - I need more, cant find any! But I would only keep 30-40 rounds extra to be honest, as I never shoot it, but maybe 1 round here or there.Superdavetx wrote:How much do you guys have?
for Range ammo, I have about 1500 rounds of 9mm, 300 rounds of .380 and 1200 rounds of .22
I NEED about 1000 - 1500 more rounds of 9mm, I think I am good on .380 and would like about 5000 rounds more of .22.
As others have said below. when I go to the range, I do not want to deplete my stock of ammo, so i need to replace what I shoot.
Am I hoarding? no, I dont think so. I think I am being practical, so when I can find ammo reasonably priced, I can stock up, so when prices skyrocket (like NOW), I do not have to pay double to have some range fun!

Re: ammo on sale
When I would go to the range before the latest buying panic, I would first go buy ammo for the guns I planned to shoot. I bought twice as much as what I planned on using that day. What I didn't shoot would go into my stash to slowly build up a stockpile for when events like this took place. Hopefully it will level off sometime soon and supplies will return to normal.

Re: ammo on sale
I'm starting to figure this out. I have 1 box of "special" ammo. Just picked up 4 boxes of FMJ today. Place where I got it limits to 600 rounds per month. They cater to LEO so I can't complain as they actually have ammo! Prices are comparable to walmart and Academy as well.
So, going shooting tomorrow I think!

Re: ammo on sale
So went to buy 9mm ammo at Academy. Well they had it behind the counter, asked the girl if they had 9mm. She said yes, man I was excited, then she said oh sorry we're sold out. I've been every where and cant find it and refuse to pay inflatted prices. Frustration. I'm not going to he range until I get what I've shot already. I did however find 223 and I don't own an ar15 but have friends that do.

Re: ammo on sale
I was at Cheaper than Dirt in McKinney today and they had a whole bunch of handgun ammo. I'm almost positive I saw .223 and I think they had .556 and 7.62 (I was only looking for handgun ammo). They did not however have any .22lr.
The prices were pretty high ($20 for a box of no-name 9mm) but at least they had ammo.
