If the gunfight lasts longer than that, I'm just er,...uh...drilled.
It isn't *all about* 'capacity'
I carry a Glock 26 IWB with 18+1 rounds, and a BUG Glock 26 in a pocket with 13+1 rounds,,, and a spare 20 round Glock mag to keep my holster at the correct angle on my belt and in case of magazine malfunction ... the spare mag is for either gun, the 20 round mag is a Glock 17 mag with a +3 base plate ... my hand doesn't work as well when cold, bigger things are easier to grip and find and that size mag keeps my holster cant proper (I use a Tuck This 2 holster where the mag pouch is in front of the holster, so angling it rests the mag base plate on my belt when the gun is angled properly) A Tuck This 2 holster only has 1 belt clip, so the *17-20 round* spare mag helps keep position/cant angle because it's the right size, the shorter mags make the holster more vertical. If either mag malfunctions, I have a spare mag ... having 20 spare rounds/more capacity is just an added benefit if I use up my first 19 rounds and BUG's 14 rounds, which I don't expect will happen.

Re: Spare magazine wearing out my pockets
I edc an m&p 40c iwb and pack a 15 round mag that i dremmel smoothed down the full size base plate on. I have a nemesis that will fit both my m&p and my lc9. When i carry the m&p Drop the full size mag in that nemesis and put it in my left front pocket. It holds it at the perfect pisition, just like their mag oacker, but it gives me an alternate means of carry. If for some reason iwb just isn't working out, i take the mag out of my nemesis, and stick my m&p in it. I like options.

Well the same thing couldn't be said about other parts in that they are not "the most common reason". If you want to carry spares to address the uncommon reasons as well, be my guest. I choose to carry a spare mag because it is "the most common reason".Oldgringo wrote:Couldn't the same be said about the firing pin or the recoil spring or the ejector, etc., etc?Jumping Frog wrote:The most common reason for semiauto malfunctions are magazine issues.

I use an IWB mag holder that I removed the belt clip from. I carry it in my rear pocket in jeans and in my front pocket in slacks. It is smooth so it does not wear out mt pants, it keeps the mag upright and you can place it in the holder facing the proper direction for a tactical reload.
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.

On my weak side behind my fixed blade & flashlight, I carry a spare mag in an old flashlight pouch.

Re: Spare magazine wearing out my pockets
I've seen this line of holsters and mag pouches on Amazon and looked up their website. Never had one in my hand, so I couldn't tell you what they're like. http://www.sneakypeteholsters.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Their mouse gun holsters look nice (leather), but might be a bit too big to be passed off as a cell phone pouch. Their mag pouches would keep dirt and lint out if you keep it in a pocket, but I wonder how tight the pouch would be to the mag. Not very good if you have to reload in a fight and have to bite on the end of the pouch to get the mag out of it.

A single stack 9X19 magazine fits in cell phone carriers. Should you consider that option and your cell phone gets evicted by the spare magazine, there are tee shirts with pockets that will accomodate the 'phone. Be careful bending over. Cell phones don't play nice after falling into a glass of iced tea.
