Re: xdm 3.8 or 5.25 for concealed carry
I have the XDm-45 Compact 3.8 and carry it often. I own two steel framed 1911s, a fullsized M&P45, and a Kahr CW45, and the XDm is the softest shooting of all of them, and it carries almost as easily as the diminutive Kahr. I think it is a fabulous gun, and choosing between it and the 5.25 for concealed carry is a no-brainer. Go with the 3.8.

You might look at the xdm compact models also. I have carried both and find the grip of the full size much more difficult to conceal under light clothing. Carrying the full size can be done, it just takes a little more care in cover garment selection.

I and my wife both have a XDm 3.8 .45, I also have a XD Compact .45. They carry very well, I have larger guns that equate to a XDm 5.25 with. I can carry it just fine with an OWB rig and the right cover shirt.. no issues... but it's not comfortable for me in a IWB.

Well, I've got a bit of weight on you, and an inch in height, and occassionally carry my 9mm XD(m) 5.25" in my comp-Tac MTAC inside-the-waistband hybrid holster. It's very concealable, not all that uncomfortable, but I don't know that I'd want it to be my every day carry gun (which is normally my 9mm Walther PPS). So no, it's not too big to carry.roff wrote:i really like the ported 5.25 model but im not sure if it is too big to carry

I've occasionally carried a gun about the size of the 5.25 and found it doable but not terribly pleasant. For frequent use the 3.8 is an easy choice.

I carry the 3.8SC and shoot 3gun with the 5.25. I havn't tried carrying the 5.25 but don't know how the draw from the holster would feel?

In a word.... llllooonnnnnggggg! It's a very noticeable difference between the PPS and the XD(m) 5.25". I've done a few drills with the longer barrel and I have to keep reminding myself that I don't need to start moving forward until the barrel clears the holster, otherwise it can get hung up.cajunautoxer wrote:I carry the 3.8SC and shoot 3gun with the 5.25.
