Where is your Home Defense rifle?

This is my first poll. It's something I've wondered about for a little while and just figured out how to set up a poll. I'm sure I'll have left out something, but let's see how it goes.

While I normally OC my G30SF around the house, the M4 is next to the bed with a light and reflex sight loaded and ready to go.

First change already. I didn't think about how to account for whether it was loaded or not at first, so I added a few more choices and allowed for two options. Hmmm, IDK if this was a good idea or not.

We always have a couple pistols at hand or on our persons -- loaded, chambered and ready. These are for fighting our way to the safe, if necessary. Typically, when we are home the safe is unlocked. Magazine fed AR rifles are stored unloaded, unchambered with ready loaded magazines close at hand. Varmint control .22s that are magazine fed are kept in the same condition. Tube fed lever guns, .22 and .357 are kept unloaded, typically. HD shotguns -- not quite matching 870s with extended magazines and side saddles -- are kept loaded, out of battery with a round on the elevator, in the first slot on either side of the long-arm section of the safe.

Which one? One on each side of the bed, one in the living room. All out of sight and easy to access, all loaded and chambered.

I don't keep a rifle available as a home defense weapon. I keep my AR in the safe with a magazine in the rifle. (and several more loaded) I do keep a 12 gauge loaded in the closet and a revolver in the night stand at all times. I carry my LCP around the house and I have a Beretta 92 at my desk. I can do this because my children are grown and out of the house.

I don't have a home defense rifle.

How about a 12ga loaded with 9 rounds of low recoil 00buck?

Good topic. I leave the long guns locked in the safe. Have always thought pistol in hand I would be able to get to the safe. The safe location is not exactly "high ground" though. Might have to rethink that situation. I recently discovered another flaw in my defense system worth noting... I cannot read the dial without reading glasses. I now have a pair parked at the safe as well as a light, since the closet door closing turns the ceiling light off.

During the day it stays in the safe as I always have a pistol either on me or within easy reach. At night, I keep my AR carbine next to the bed, unloaded, with a full magazine loaded with 55 grain soft points next to it. The main reason I don't load it is that I already have about 5 loaded handguns within easy reach also, so I just haven't felt the need. I think that's enough to meet nearly any unexpected trouble. I can load and charge the carbine in a few seconds. If I expected trouble, I'd load the carbine before it found me.

I know that's not tactically very sound, but between all my other guns, my wife's three loaded guns at her bedside, and a dog that will eat the hindparts off anybody who comes through the door uninvited, it just doesn't seem like a pressing need.

1911, Draco and 12ga hd by the bed. Safe unlocked, 4ft. from bed with Uzi and Ar rifles in .223 and .308 out front with full mags. Lots of loaded mags for each weapon on shelves. Flashlight on 12ga, flashlight and spotlight on top of safe. Wife has 1911 and .357 Sp101 by her bed with Uzi and AR rifles in .223 and .243 with loaded mags for all on shelves in her bedroom safe. Flashlight by bed and flash and spotlight on safe. If one of us works late we call on the phone before entering the house.

My Marine Magnum shottie is loaded with "00" (clear chamber) near the bed, but the AR is in the safe, loaded (clear chamber).

SP101 loaded with 125gr .357 Golden Sabers under the pillow and German Shepherd at the foot of bed.

I don't own a 'home defense' rifle... so, still at the store. I am looking to by an AR, but will not be used for home defense; I don't intend to keep it loaded.

For HD, I keep my Glock 17 in a safe in my nightstand fully loaded and with an extra magazine fully loaded.
