Does anybody know someone in Houston who can move it to my upstairs aparment for me?
The Academy on 59 near Kirby has prices for moving and installing safes. I don't remeber the prices, but I THINK it was around $200 for a move. The install was extra.

OK, I finally got my new safe!! A Browning 30" wide model from Sportsman's Warehouse. There is a local Police Officer who Sportsman's works with that delivers. He delivered and set it where I wanted it for $140. The thing weighs 610# empty.

Any thoughts as to storing ammo in the safe? I was thinking that's an easy 50-60# that can be added to the safe. Any reason to not do this? I'm talking boxed ammo, no reloading stuff (powder/primers). With guns, ammo, and a couple of other things, the safe we be 750# plus.

Thanks for any input....

Do you have a heat rod or dehumidifer?

Not yet, but will get one within a few days. Just need to go to Sportsman's again and pick one up.

I would be hesitant to keep ammo in a safe with a heating rod? I may be paranoid for no reason, but it would bother me. FWIW

just keep the rod away from the ammo and it should be okay. I have a safe with an electronic lock and it works great. Nice thing about it, is if I had to I could get in it even in the dark, very quickly.

I wouldn't sweat it too much...Sure its something electrical, and its a coil...But I have had one in mine since I had it, and nothing bad has happened yet...(knock on wood) Nor do I expect anything to happen...

All it does is remove the humidity in an enclosed space with a very slight temperature increase...And it is an almost negligable increase at that...I have felt zero heat on any surface around the element, so there is no convective heating around this thing...

It sits in the bottom right behind a half case of .223... ;-)

Thanks all, I now feel comfortable keeping ammo in the safe. I want the weight and also keep the ammo away from inquiring minds!!

What's funny is a friend of mine has a sign on his safe that tells any would be criminal that there is a 10lb can of black powder inside. Should keep the torch away anyway.

I'm not so sure most bad guys know what black powder is.
