Probably a TV, comfortable seating, and adult beverages for the trusted few who know of its existence.

I was thinking more of a vaulted, fire-proof, tornado-proof, safe room that's about 20'x40' and that serves as a combination wine cellar and gun display/storage room, with self-contained air system, a big-screen TV at one end, a gunsmithing/reloading station at the other, and a big ol' poker table in the middle...

Well, of course, so was I. But I was trying to be modest. ;-)

But if the lottery numbers are willing...

I called around, and it seems everybody wants to charge $200 for delivery. Also the electronic safe lock is kind of scares me. What if it fails right before a problem arises?

My bad, I asked around, nobody even deliver safes unless I buy from them, but none carry low end safes.

I think I have decided on Sentry Safe from Academy which costs $500. I like the design, but not so much on the digital lock - well, just have to find a plan B for that.

Does anybody know someone in Houston who can move it to my upstairs aparment for me?

Some dealers that sell safes have people that they use to deliver safes that are too heavy for the customer.

First, I would ask the Academy store manager if they have anyone they use. Someone like Carter Country sells safes but isn't in the delivery business. They might provide you with contact info if you ask. I wouldn't tell them I was buying a new safe from someone else, but maybe you have one that you need moved.

The drawbacks are that they are likely not bonded or insured and the rate may still be around the $200 figure you mentioned.

Still, it can't hurt to ask.

The problem is that I cannot even find someone to do it for $200.

You might call an on site auction company in the area. They usually have a company that will move heavy items for people buying them from estates etc.

The concern I would have is you have that many more people knowing what you have and where.

Just suck it up and carry it yourself.
