If you're interested...

Myself and another fine member of this great forum picked ours up last night. I got what I expected, maybe a little more. Not sure about all the "ugly gun" comments, I'm kind of drawn to mine, maybe it's the age/history thing. Maybe it's just that it has a face only a mother could love. But a worn gun in my opinion does not neccessarily make for an ugly gun. No pics yet, maybe tommorrow.

The one I picked out has almost no blueing left, this is the norm for these I suppose. The grip panels are in pretty rough condition, again this appears to be the norm. The fit and trigger were much better than I expected. The gun seems fairly tight, slide to frame and barrell to slide are great, locking lugs look good, no serious dents or dings, all parts are there and appear to be okay. The magazine is pretty tight in the frame, I'll have to look into that soon. The trigger on this one is not bad, heavier than Kimber/S&W/Springer of course, but it's relatively clean.

Upon complete teardown I found that all parts are in good condition, but the inside workings were very dry and awfully dirty. A good cleaning took care of most of it, will have to take more time to get it how I want it though. Everything mechanically looks pretty good, only thing I noticed is that the rifling in the barrell is pretty worn...it's still there and visable, but not crisp and clean where the lands and grooves meet. Shot a lot? Corrosive ammo? Don't know.

However do inspect your pistol well before you fill out the paperwork (thanks for your help there, Jim!), not all the pistols are like this. We left one at the store that was very, VERY loose, missing the magazine, and had a chipped plunger tube.

Got a few parts on order to spruce this one up, will update later. Suppose I better get some .45 ammo and test this one out before I start sinking too much into it.

Your close inspection fit my superficial one. Looked rough but fit seemed good. I did not get to try the trigger due to tie straps.

I've been working and haven't had a chance to get off but I just called the Spring GM and they are all gone (now there's a shock). Oh well, Maybe next time.

Did you happen to ask if other stores had any?

The Beaumont store appeared to be the distribution point, as they requested that other stores transfer theirs to them.

I believe I read in this thread that two were transferred from Beaumont to Spring for another member.

I just spoke with a GM rep and they are still releasing these guns bit by bit as they make them ready. I imagine that they are still trying to cull the unsuitables from the herd. They are going to call me back about transferring a few for me to look at at. I will keep the forum updated if and when I hear from her. She did mention that they might charge a Xfer fee of $30.00 to have them shipped in. I most certainly will not be paying that portion as that is thier cost of doing business.

Sherman store: ain't got none, ain't gon git none.
Corsicana: sold out. talked to a guy Friday that said the GunSmith would work on the 5 they had, and would release them for sale today.
Guy I talked to today said those were already spoken for, and that they prolly wouldn't be getting anymore in.

Import Marks

#58

Post by cxm »

Can anyone tell me what the importer's markings are on the guns... i.e. who is the importer?

Thanks

Lipsey's first sold them (waaaay overgraded them, and had to take them back, which is how GM wound up with them). I don't know if Lipsey's was the importer, though.

There's nothing like the Century Claw Of Death import mark, though.
