1911 magazine
I know it's been talked about multiple times here, but what magazine is the "best one" for a 1911? I'll be getting a Kimber pro raptor tomorrow and wouldn't mind picking up a couple mags to go with it as well.
Also is there anything else I should order that may wear out or need to switch for reliability reasons. I have absolutely no clue about anything 1911 other than they shoot great and I want one. Any and all advise will be greatly appreciated.

For Kimbers, Wilson Combat & Tripp Research are the most used. Never had a bobble w/ either.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: 1911 magazine
I'll add a thumbs up for the Wilson 47D.
I can't speak to a Kimber, but my Colt Rail Gun hasn't bobbled with one at all on any ammo that I've tried to feed though it. The stock 8rnd Colt mags on the other hand seem to prefer FMJ or Hornady XTPs when used in my gun. That combo has been unhappy with other hollow points to the point where they wouldn't even feed a single round. Strangely, the stock 7 round Colt mags have been flawless for me as well.
I've heard that 1911s each have a distinct personality and a mag that works beautifully in one 1911 can turn another into a jam-o-matic. Watching my buddy use my stock mags in his (1953 Colt - Commerical version) with no issues using ammo that jammed mine and vice versa with his vintage mags in mine, I tend to agree.
I've seen my Wilson work fine in 3 separate 1911s (2 Colts and 1 Springfield).

Re: 1911 magazine
I'll try the Wilson first, if they don't work out I'll try something else. Only replies I received on the 1911 forum is for Wilson. I needed a starting point, thanks guys.
Re: 1911 magazine
I have several Chip McCormick mags and have had no issues with them and various kinds of ammo through my Kimbers.

Re: 1911 magazine
I would go with Tripp Research...
However my two Colts, one a 70's Combat Commander and the other a 1991A! Compact both run fine on Colt factory magazines. I have some Tripps as well and they run fine too.

Re: 1911 magazine
I cannot speak for Kimber specifically, but my stock Springfield GI model works great with Chip McCormick Power 8s...I will buy more of them as the budget allows.

AndyC also has a few other posts where the engineering of the designs are discussed. I'm in an airport and can't find a link, but it's somewhere.

Re: 1911 magazine
Power Mags or Wilsons are a good place to start.
Re: 1911 magazine
...just learned things about a 1911 mag I'd never heard of...thanks. AndyC...
