How do you sell a gun face to face?

Re: How do you sell a gun face to face?
I've sold or bought several from private individuals and it's always been a public parking lot and the inspection was done discreetly in one vehicle or the other.
I did sell a gun one time to a police officer. We met in a busy fast food parking lot. I handed the gun over in it's case for her to look at and she pulls it out, looks it over, works the action, checks out the sights, etc, all in plain view of everyone in the parking and probably anyone looking out the window of the restaurant. Now, she was in uniform, but I can't imagine what everyone else thought was going on.

You might remember that little Supreme Court case last year in which the USPC said that their ban was unconstitutional. I would never try to sell any firearm "face to face". Would only let a FFL dealer handle the transaction. "Parking Lot or In The Vehicle" transactions, to me, appear to be similar to "drug deals" when viewed by a LEO...JMO, biased and overly careful... :)

Difference...one is legal and the other is not.Running Arrow Bill wrote:I would never try to sell any firearm "face to face". Would only let a FFL dealer handle the transaction. I am not going to answer to this other than... Looks can be deceiving. If I went through live thinking what others would think, I wouldn't be at nothing what I am today. Just joking. As an adult I have choices and rights. Rights cannot be taken away but what they may appear to be. They are what they are.Running Arrow Bill wrote:I would never try to sell any firearm "face to face". Would only let a FFL dealer handle the transaction. Only sold 2 guns ever, both of those where to good friends that had been to my house several times. So wasnt an issue since we could do all this in my house. I have bought several guns from ftf sales. Most of these where meet in parking lot of large store one of us gets in the car looks over gun. Money exchanged, deal done.
Re: How do you sell a gun face to face?
I have sold many, many guns, primarily handguns, and each was sold after advertising on TexasGunTrader.com (it's free). The initial contacts were via e-mail, progressing to phone calls, and then finally a face-to-face meeting at a local or nearly local shooting range, which in Houston is generally convenient for both me and the prospective buyer and completely removes the potential for shock by unsuspecting passers-by.
Because I am meticulous in my descriptions when listing the guns, I have never had a single buyer refuse to purchase or contact me after the purchase with any complaints whatsoever.

What if instead of "gun" which is legal .... it was a "banned" used incandescent light bulb?...A kid's Easy Bake oven is at stake ...
Used baseball bat?
How about a used deadly bow and arrow or really silent and deadly crossbow?
A Bowie knife?
Dishwasher?
A Sergeant at a PD wanted a .45 I had, we met in my driveway... no need to bother an FFL
I've sold and gifted many legal guns to many officers and friends ... I give light bulbs to them too, but those are the legal non-banned CFL bulbs.. I don't give away used incandescent any more ... I used to, but they are banned now.
-------------------
I've also traded ... I had a Glock 27, someone else had a Glock 26, I wanted a 26 and he wanted a 27 ... I have not traded light bulbs, but traded other stuff before.

I'm free, white, over 21 and have sold, traded and bought several firearms face to face and via the internet without any feelings of guilt, shame or lawlessness over the years. We never had to "do it" in the dark of the moon or in some other secluded and perhaps clandestine location; e.g., the back seat of a car.

...I think it's basically about our gooberment's attempts to "help" us...regulating what doesn't need regulated, and saving us from ourselves...in spite of what we want...if we let 'em...
Re: How do you sell a gun face to face?
Treat it like a first blind date, meet close to people, not too close..... take a friend if you want, let someone know where you'll be and what you're doing n who you're meeting All that matters to me is you had your CHL to flash .... just like a FFL doesn't "need" to do a background check if you have a CHL ... neither do I cause it's already been done and it's established you are legal to own and possess one if you have a valid CHL
Funny thing at church today, we had some visitors from sister churches in 2 or 3 other towns who came to hear my Cousin who Pastors an Austin church preach.
One member says he just got a hunting lease over in or near Llano
One Deacon starts talking about next weekend's gun show over in Buchanan Dam.
A retired LEO member says "I rented a booth there"
I asked if he got my e-mail advising him to join TexasCHLforum so he can post a lot and later buy or sell here too (He's got some 1911s I nearly bought, but in money saving mode at the moment)
One of our other members says "My son was up visiting and he just got a nice Ithica shotgun, I'd sure like one"
Another member says "Hey, I've got one for sale"
5 minutes later you hear a man telling his wife "I just bought a shotgun ..."
One of the visitors from another city, said he'd sold most of his handguns because he moved and couldn't take all 3 gun safes... while he spoke, he appeared to me to be making sure his round bottom shirt was pulled down far enough ... I didn't say anything about his "tell"
(Wouldn't surprise me if a fair % of the CHLs in our county were at our church today)

Well, did my first face-to-face today with a member of this board. Smooth.

Re: How do you sell a gun face to face?
Looks can be deceiving. One guy warned me ahead of time he would appear like a banger, but would show his badge. DEA undercover (was actually in a police car as well). I never have dealt on Craigslist but done many trades/sales on here and TGT. You meet a lot of LEO on TGT. Dealt with US Marshal, DHS, DEA, DPS, a lot of locals. You have no need to feel like a criminal doing parking lot trades. I always suggest the meeting place just in case though and I do prefer busy places, usually Bass Pro in 288. I have had people want me to come to their home, which I think is highly unsafe for them. I would never invite a stranger to my home like that dealing with large amounts of cash except for some of the members here I feel safe about.

Re: How do you sell a gun face to face?
I've been invovled in several face to face gun deals over the years and have never had any problems. Always during the day and in a public parking lot.
