Black T Finish Wear Report

#1

Post by doc540 »

I couldn't be more satisfied with the performance of the late Walter Birdsong's "Black T" finish.

My Commander has had thousands of cycles from thousands of rounds down the pipe.

And the plastic, Fobus holster had contacted the frame and slide at least a thousand times.

Not too bad (considering they charged me less than $100)

The .45 Commander is in their hands right now, too.

And, no, the worn areas still will not rust or corrode.

Thanks for the report. I've been wanting to get a Kimber frame done. I know that it varies...but what was the turnaround time when you had your work done?

There is no better finish for corrosion/rust prevention.

Glad to know that their shop continues doing great work.

less than 30 days

but it can be more if they're swamped with a large military order

Does the pistol frame and slide need to be prepped prior to sending? Detail striped ?
Cost for a frame and slide?

I want to have my very near and dear CZ75 Pre B Franconia Special done in a new finish.
Thanks

Yes, I would strip and prep the frame and slide before sending it to them.

Slide, frame, and mainspring housing cost me $96 including shipping.

Can't beat that with a stick.

That's one of the best looking 1911's I've seen in a while. Love the black with the satin controls. :thumbs2:

Thanks for the feedback. while I've detail stripped a lot of weapons of the years, the CZ is one I have not.. Never had to in more than 20k rounds.. the thing has never broken :thumbs2: nor have my other two CZ's.. BUT guess I'll have to do this one anyway.

Cannot wait to get it cleaned up and refinished, many memories tied up in this one.

Thanks

While advance stripping can be done, their staff will strip and then coat almost every internal part as opposed to only the major parts.

I would send the assembled pistol.

Yes, they sure can, and they do recommend treating all the internal parts. (They're treating all the parts of my .45 Commander which they have right now.)

But I was on a budget and the original finish "needed some attention".
