Advanced Shoulder Arthritis - How To Deal With It?

Finally made it to an orthopedic surgeon. He said my only option is a new shoulder joint. The best news he gave me is that at my age he can guarantee that I will need another one if my life expectancy holds true.

Cortisone provides temporary relief but he told me I will know when I need the procedure. Looking at February 2012 timing.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, doesn't sound like much fun.

Have you considered learning how to shoot left handed? Might not be a bad idea especially if you know you will not be able to use your right hand after surgery.

I am going tgo start working on left handed shooting real soon....and swapping mags with my right arm in a sling. A sling is a good hide out for a BUG.

Left knee- ACL/MCL surgery in 2003 --baseball injury
Left Ankle- broken, 3 of the long bones in my foot broken--motorcycle crash 2009
3 ribs broken-- 7.62 round from 70 yards, Thank you SAPI plates! 2007
Pinched nerve lower back/broken jaw-- IED And I was in the trailing vehicel behind the one that got blown up. BTW, only person injured was me, go figure. 2008
Right forearm, compound fracture--Fell out of a tree in 1997


I'm gonna be a miserable 70 year old man, aren't I? Jeeeez.

P.S. Cortizone is awesome, but wears out fast. I got them in my knee for a year, and stopped because the pain that they caused GIVING me the shot was worse than the pain ny knee caused me.

I am not old, but have some miles on me. I had a motorcycle accident that dislocated my shoulder and rotated my arm 90 degrees. It has been dislocated 2 more times as all of my tendons are torn. My doc said exercise was the answer to help hold the joint in place. Long story short, trying to exercise just made it inflame more. Surgery was an option that I wanted to avoid. 18 years of extreme sports has taken a toll, and in my 40's I was having arthritis issues.

I went to a nutritionist of all things (some homeopathic (sp?) stuff also.

I did not think it would work at first, but it really has. I take lots of vitamins, oil tabs, and other suppliments, but I am not in pain anymore, and my doctor says whatever I am doing, keep on doing it.

November 8 I undergo shoulder surgery. The procedure is called the Copeland Cementless Surface Replacement Arthroplasty (CSRA).

Mrs. Anygun, my true love, stumbled onto an orthopedic surgeon who offers this in place of a total joint replacement. Research shows that only 2% of patients who receive this procedure ever require a total joint replacement. The recovery time is reduced. The surgeon assured me that I will eventually have 100% use of my right shoulder with no limitations.

Does it work on knees? My knees are what bother me most. The right one has been scoped 3 times already and may or may not have one more time left.

I don't have any knowledge of knee repairs. I'm hopin' mine are ok. No history of knee issues.

My titanium plate in my left leg will have a balnce with my new right shoulder though!

I have a bursa problem in my right hip, so I carry on my left side and cross-draw....

I personally do not think you are crazy.

There is no cartilage left in my shoulder - bone on bone. I have a bone spur nearly 3/4 inch long on the inside of my humerus head. I doubt seriously if acupuncture will regenerate my cartilage. Restoration of the joint is pretty much my only option or else I will never be able to shoulder fire a long gun from my right shoulder again. Thank you for your recommendation!

I am 45 and have arthritis of bilateral shoulders from too many years as competitive powerlifter. I can no longer tolerate Nsaids secondary to gastric upset. I can however take Celebrex. (Not an endorsement, but ask your Doc) I also went to physical therapy Post Op after my Posterior Labrum repair and I find the PT exercises increase my flexiblity and decrease my pain in every day activites and shooting. Hope this helps
