Cleaning a Tarus 24/7 pro ds

#1

Post by Cdhutson »

I recently gave my son a Tarus 24/7 Pro DS for his birthday. He took it to the range and fell in love with it. Now he wants to properly clean and lube it but can't find any videos on YouTube. Does anyone have any suggestions? I already explained that he should only use solvent on the barrel and a dry brush for the rest and only oil the slide and barrel bushing "lightly". Any other tips would be appreciated.

Actually there are several on youtube, perhaps not specifying the DS, but they will strip and clean the same. here is one " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The 24/7 is an excellent pistol, though many will scoff at Taurus. I went through 2 shooting schools, shooting 2,000 rounds in two days and never a hiccup.

I agree, I have many weapons I could carry, however I LOVE my 24/7 CDS .45acp. Compact, 10+1 , Decocker AND thumb safety...Hard to beat. 11 rounds of .45 with a spare 12 round mag, if I can't win with that I need a shotgun or rifle. :fire
Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.

Since the Tauruses need all the love they can get, I gotta chime in here myself that the 24/7 DS line is one fine value. I have both a .40 and a 9mm and simply love the DA/SA trigger, not to mention the safety/decocker. Taurus has come a long, long way in recent years (and the lifetime warranty doesn't hurt).

If you go to the Taurus forum, you will have all the help you could ever need, usually with pics of detailed cleaning, repairs, etc.

Thanks for all the good info - I'm sure this will help him out. I am encouraging him to join our forum. He and I took our CHL class together in February and are waiting on plastic.

To all Taurus owners and the Taurus naysayers:

I agree with the above comments that Taurus is a good value brand.
My PT111 has about 2,500 rounds through it, and I have never had an issue.

Sure, all brands (even those $1,000 .45's that begin with "K") can have an issue.

But the bad rap that Taurus took many years ago still stays in many folks minds,
despite vast improvements in quality control, plus a lifetime warranty.

Take some time to browse the Taurus website and the depth of the product line
(vast number of pistol and revolver variants) will amaze you. They have so many
styles, in all sizes and calibers, I don't know how they can produce so many kinds
and make a profit.

Although my wish list contains many different brands/models of handguns, I would
have no problem buying another model of Taurus and trusting my life to it.

Outside of what you recommended to him, I usually make sure the area around the firing pin and the extractor are clean as well as the channels under the pin mechanism. I also hit the feed ramp on the barrel and the frame to make sure they are clean and smooth.

I own three Taurus pistols (Pt 140, 24/7 pro DS, PT-1911) and all three weapons have been top notch. I've got about 1,500 through the 140 , 500 through the 24/7 (my edc and IDPA) gun and a couple hundred through the 1911 (its still a newbie) that I carry on the weekends and in the house.
