The material the follower is made from is less important than the geometry of the follower and magazine lips as far as reliable functioning is concerned. I've found the rounded metal followers to be slightly more reliable than the flat ones but not enough to summarily dismiss flat followers. I don't care who made the magazine, if it won't work in my gun then I discard it or repair it. Even at the price of Wilson mags they are too cheap to trust one that isn't 100%.
Texican_gal care to elaborate on your reasons for removing the ambi-safety from your Kimber? I'm not a big fan of ambi-safetys because I've seen too many of them break.

Howdy MoJo ... yes, I'll tell you. I've had the safety on the outside of the gun get knocked off in a holster or catch on clothing. It is just an extra piece of trouble hanging off the gun, if you ask me. And yes, I'm right-handed.

+1 on Tripp Cobra mags and Spring upgrades.. I installed the Tripp Spring/follower on my new Kimber Custom 11 and ordered two cobra mags for the same gun.. Never had problems.. note.. never had problems with this gun either.. I have a Colt 1991A1 that had a terrible feeding problem ( using ball ammos) and slide not staying open after the last round... I replaced the spring/follower w/ a Tripp Spring/follwer upgrade and that magazine works perfect now.. Needless to say, I also bought a couple mags for this gun from them.. Virgil Tripp did work on 1911 pistols, but their plating business has really expanded (due to people talking on the web about the great results they got) and now they don't have time anymore.

I have also taken the ambi-safety off my Tactical Ultra II. My reasoning was that it was a tight fit with the Crimson Trace grips, the right side safety rested on top of the 'laser bulge' on the top of the right grip and was leaving a mark in the grip plastic. Also right handed and not much use for it.

'Removed' it quite by accident.
Took the grips off to give the gun a good cleaning as I bought it used at a gun show. Set it down on the right side, when I picked it up, the right side thumb safety just slid right out. It's grooved on the end of the rod like it fits into a slot on the end of the left side thumb safety, but nothing else appeared to be holding it in place. So when I put everything back together, I just left it off.
When I sent the gun back in to Kimber last month to have a problem fixed, I put it back on when I took the CT grips off and the factory grips back on. When the gun came back with a new slide, barrel, etc., I went to put the CT grips back on, this time I just had to pull slightly to get the right side thumb safety off once the right grip was removed.
Removing it does leave a small hole exposed.

Dave, I would suggest replacing the remaining half of you ambi-safety with a traditional, one-piece, single-side thumb safety if you aren't going to use the ambi-safety. It varies from one gun to the next but having only half a shaft of the thumb safety in place may cause the grip safety and firing-pin block(Kimber Series II or Smith&Wesson's) to function improperly.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.
