Taurus 1911...Is it too good to be true???

I made a visit up to my Dad's over Labor Day weekend, and he had an American Rifle (NRA magazine) edition showing the new Taurus 1911 .45

I believe that was where I first saw it, but thats beside the point...

I remember some points of the article and range report, and was interested...

The handgun almost looks like a spitting image of a 5" Kimber in a lot of the lines and features, the accuracy sounded pretty good right out of the box...

And the price caught my eye as well...$600 approx. MSRP

Always looking for a new aquisition, and the price seems right, and y'all tend to get around more than I these days...

Input, opinion, ups or downs???

Glad you posted, there was a fellow here that is trying to get a couple. He quoted me right at $500. Of course, that's when or if he can get them.

I like the one i saw, handled. Trigger felt good.

I want to try Bullseye matches, and IDPA. I figure a good .45 would cover most of those. Just don't have much knowledge about price vs accuracy.

I have not seen one in person.....I would like to play with one at the next gun show! They look very nice and they are paying for a good bit of advertising for them. Let me know what you guys think when you shoot one! I am just an old Glock fan, but I like to know what is going on the the 1911 world from time to time

I handled one at the Mesquite Rodeo gunshow a while back and if the gun shoots and holds up to hard use then Springfield Armory and Kimber have to take notice and look at price adjustments.
The PT1911 had a pretty impressive fit and finish and the features for the money make it an incredible bargain. IF, it holds up and is reliable.

given the highest taurus against the lowest springfield, i'd pay the higher price for the springfield. every taurus i've ever seen/handled didn't seem finished. they all felt like they came off the line too soon.

I found a Para @ Academy Sports for 618.00 w/match grade trigger and full length guide rod. I'm going to see what they are going for at the next gun show.

Did you see the ILS (internal locking system) in the hammer? That's the only questionable thing, to me. I woke up thinking about that this mornming, and wondering if a hammer replacement does away with that unnecessary bit, or if there is more involved.

I did see the ILS in the hammer. I do disagree with the reason for the locks but they don't bother me. I just don't use them.
I imagine that changing the hammer is probably all that it would take to get rid of it if you just couldn't stand the lock being there.

Recalling what I saw in the article, and the experience I have with another PT series pistol my wife owns...

I would say the factory has improved its machining and assembly operations from what I have heard in the past, that left something to be desired years ago...

The trigger work and design they do seems to be on the heavy side, to which I say you just get used to, or obviously having some resonable work do on that to your liking...

I think the quality is good, but I do have a concern about the durability over time with what I think should be a reasonable workout schedule over the lifetime of the firearm...That is one of the unknowns...

But the pricing to me might offset those concerns...

The only thing I do not know about is that would the pistol take a standard 1911 Wilson Combat or other comparable magazine and operate reliably with those products??? I can't assume either way until I see or hear good info on that...

I wanted to hear from people I know, before I figure "what the heck" lets do it...

Ohhh, and BTW, the integral safety in the hammer does not offend me at all...As long as the mechanism doesn't interfere over the life and operation of the pistol, I'm ok with it...

Strictly from the standpoint that it'll never be engaged...ever...

I fiddled with the one on Wife Unit's PT24/7 9mm when she got it...

It was kinda a neat feature, one that had a good positive on/off cycle...I'm sure the same engineering went into the PT1911 system...

But if I get one...It'll get no more attention than the last one did...Then that little key will just find some little nook or cranny in the safe at home...Hopefully never to be needed ever...

I would wait awhile on a Taurus. I have heard reports of funky barrel lugs that are weird enough to make me seriously wonder about their longevity. I'd rather wait and see a few more examples before deciding.

I'm holding my thoughts until I actually see one. I have not been able to find one locally. Every dealer I've been to says they are back-orderd.

If they are as good as most reports I've read, may have to pick one up.

I will look at the NRA show @ Dallas next weekend.

If I do get one I will bring it to Forum Day

I finally got to fondle one at the Tulsa gun show this weekend. Being a SW1911 man

I wasn't that impressed. Granted, they wanted right at $500 for it, which is probably at least $150 cheaper than I could get the base SW1911 for but I dunno, there's something to be said about American Made SW1911s vs Brazillian made PT1911s.

Plus I hate the Heinie Straight 8 Sights.

I suppose if I was just starting out in 1911s and didn't have any prejudgement prejudices, I would probably give it a serious look - if I could get it for $450 out the door...
