I picked up one from the Lewisville Academy on Sunday afternoon, and it came with 1 16 round magazine. They said I was their 7th buyer that day.

Just one mag?? I'd go back and ask where the second mag is. These are supposed to have two mags...WillieD wrote:I picked up one from the Lewisville Academy on Sunday afternoon, and it came with 1 16 round magazine. They said I was their 7th buyer that day.

WillieD: Howdy neighbor!! If they are selling 6 or 7 of these a day for
the 7 days of the sale, they just might sell all 50 of these that the
Lewisville store had in stock.
and mrblitz:
Well your comments are puzzling. Your ability to get your PT-101's
with 16 round mags matches the Academy ad.
But the Taurus website, which seems like it should have the final say
on anything Taurus, says that PT-101's are either 10+1 or 11 + 1 when
chambered in .40.
By the way guys, can you post a few words on this thread about your range time when
you shoot your new guns? Thanks.

Hi All,
First post here. I picked up one of these 2 weeks ago from the Academy in Plano and yes it does have 2 16 round mags. After doing some research, the 10 and 11 round mags found online and in some stores will NOT work for the PT 101 P. The 16 round mags are a little bit thicker than the others and the 10 and 11 round ones will slip out if wiggled. You can call Taurus USA at 305-624-1115 and order the 16 round mags as they are not found online. They cost $39 each. I ordered 2 last Friday and they are due to be delivered on Monday.
Just a heads up.

The Academy in Lafayette, LA ran these as their Black Friday special the day after Thanksgiving. I missed that sale, but they ran it again the week before Christmas, so I bought one. $324 out of the door. I am new to this forum (from LA) but I saw where someone asked for opinions on the performance.
I was able to directly compare this pistol to two others that were purchased last Fall. 1) A Glock 20 10mm with Nite Sights, that I purchased a Lone Wolf 40S&W barrel for and 2) A Springfield Armory XD-M in 40S&W that my son purchased. We ran a couple hundred rounds of various factory/handloads through each pistol at Barney's indoor range in December.
My observations:
1) I have small hands. The Taurus' big fat double stack is the least comfortable to grip of the three, but very close to the Glock. The XD-M came with three interchangeable backstraps; the most comfortable pistol I ever held.
2) Accuracy: This Taurus PT101-P shoots groups. Smalll Groups. Just as good or even better than the XD-M. Glock was okay, but not even close to the other two.
3) Dependability: The XD-M was perfect. No malfunctions of any kind; BUT so was the Taurus. I fired the Glock with the only 10mm available, ammo I loaded on my Dillon RL550B. Stovepiped on the second round. Averaged about 1 failure per EACH magazine. I switched to the Lone Wolf barrel and tried factory and handloaded 40S&W. My son loved this...heavy 10mm spring allowed the first eject to NAIL me in the middle of the forehead, the rest passsed uncomfortably close to my face. Fewer jams, but still had a couple.
4) For handloaders...the Glock feedramp is cut from the chamber. "Unsupported chamber" leaves a pregnant bulge just foreward of the casehead. To reload it must be run through a "push-through" sizer, or "roll sized". Just something else to tick me off about the Glock.
5) Final thoughts: Would not buy the Glock...not happy at all with it. The XD-M is a work of art; the pistol pack looks like a real Pelican case, with all the accessories. Nice..I have actually called SA and begged them to make one in .45 ACP. The Taurus came in a cardboard box, one extra mag and the cleaning brush, nothing fancy. The XD-M cost my son $630, while the Taurus was almost half that. My only regret is that I did not buy 2 of the PT101-P's while they were on sale.

Kajan:
Welcome to the forum <sir?>. Thanks for the range report on
3 different guns.
The funny thing about this Taurus PT-101 sale is that it lasted
long after the week that it was supposed to. Sometimes it seems
like if they have PT-101's in stock, they keep selling them for
$299.99. Just keep browsing your local Academy, you might get
that 2nd one after all.

Hi Kajan, welcome to the forum! Glad to have you with us!
Thanks for chiming in with a great report! Look forward to your future posts.
Have stayed in Lafayette several times en route to New Orleans, and toured the bayou country south of there to Abbeyville and over to Avery Island. Had to stop in at the Tabasco capitol of the world. Beautiful country.
