Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
How long does anyone think it will take before they claim responsibility for this? Obama is elected, gun and ammo sales go through the roof, violent crime decreases by roughly 10%. It may have been out of fear of further regulation/restriction or any number of other possibilities. The incidents of self defense seem to have also skyrocketed. Maybe the bad guys have noticed that more and more people are standing up for themselves rather than being helpless compliant victims.

Re: Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
Since the so called "Blue Dog" Democrats have completely sold out all their conservative and/or constitutional values I would imagine it won't be long. If Obama was at all concerned about their careers I don't think he and his kind would have pushed their Socialists agenda as hard as they have. They simply don't care and are using those politicians who claimed conservatism but easily folded when promised tax money for their own projects. So, on other conservative issues like "crime control" and "gun control" I see no restrictions for them in claiming whatever they want. They have done it since Obama started his campaign and will continue the lies at will. They cause the problem, blame others and take credit for any positive outcomes even if it does destroy their credibility or at least what little they have of it among the fence-setters.
I think this will be a "Spring Issue" before the usual increase in crime over the Summer months hits. That way they can convince those that never pay attention that his Administration has actually done something positive. As well, they will need to get out some good news before the ignorant masses begin to realize those extra $$$ being taken out of their checks and the rise is prices for the goods they are buying are the results of the "Change" they voted for. Obama may want to hold the stats until he can find someone to manipulate them to show crime has almost totally been done away with or something tough. They should have little problem finding computer programmers and number crunchers to manipulate the Data the same what they have on the "Global Warming" myth. But who can predict the actions of people that never tell the truth about anything they do?

He's still blaming all the bad on President Bush, so I have no doubt Hussein will take credit for ANY good. Just my .02.

Has there actually been a violent crime decrease and since when?
Based on this forum's postings a person would think we are poised on anarchy.

Statistics have shown over the past years that murder rates in a lot of areas have reduced. However, in many areas assaults, robberies and burglaries have been on a steady rise over years.Zee wrote:Has there actually been a violent crime decrease and since when?

I do believe we have seen a higher increase lately in all areas due to the economy. More and more out of work and people struggling to survive drives them to crime, and in turn many of them will be armed and violent.

So this post is stirring it up Obama bashing based on some vague something. Sometimes this is called trolling. Creating controversy and agitation where none exist.Keith B wrote:Statistics have shown over the past years that murder rates in a lot of areas have reduced. Re: Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
look up the definitions of "bribery" and "prostitution" in your Funk & Wagnalls or Merriam-Webster on line....those politicians who claimed conservatism but easily folded when promised tax money for their own projects...
Controversy and discontent most certainly does exist - with or without this forum. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al are not bringing about their promised CHANGE. Add "lies" and "agenda" to the above definitions to be researched in your reference sources.So this post is stirring it up Obama bashing based on some vague something. Sometimes this is called trolling. Creating controversy and agitation where none exist.
Re: Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
The OP's post is not trolling. And it is not vague. Purchases of guns and ammo DID go through the roof and the increase in crime and self defense since Obama took office HAS increased. These are all facts.Zee wrote:So this post is stirring it up Obama bashing based on some vague something. Sometimes this is called trolling. Re: Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
"FBI Releases Preliminary Semiannual Crime Statistics for 2009 -
Violent Crime
* All four of the offenses that make up violent crime (murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) decreased nationwide. Murder declined 10.0 percent, robbery fell 6.5 percent, forcible rape decreased 3.3 percent, and aggravated assault declined 3.2 percent."
http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel09/stats_122109.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I believe it is interesting to note that during the reporting period that:
1. Gun sales were at a record high. All gun manufacturers reported record sales gains during that period.
2. Ammunition sales were at a fever frenzy. All of us know about the frustrating ammo shortage that has prevailed in the past year.
3. There has been record numbers of CHL applicants from all states reported this past year, causing massive delays in processing and licenses being issued.
It will be interesting to note what the current administration will say about this decrease in violent crime rate. Could the 3 above mentioned contributed to the decrease? I'd like to think so(specially due to numbers 1 & 3), but time will tell.

Re: Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
The decrease may also be attributed to Law Enforcement agencies and Prosecutors filing fewer charges
on the premise of lack of evidence or cases deemed not strong enough to get a conviction .
One thing's for sure , there's still plenty of crime to go around . Much of goes unreported and unsolved.

Item nos. 1 & 3 above do not mesh with the self-serving agendas of the current POTUS and his minions. Based on the POTUS' propensity for finger pointing, if Item nos. 1 & 3 are acknowledged at all, they will be blamed on the rampant crime wave under the Bush administration.

Oh I'm not O.G. Wifey accuses me of being to optimistic and stubborn. I'll just keep on believing 1 & 3 have had a beneficial impact on the crime decrease, and .380 ammo will once again become plentiful.

Re: Violent crime decrease attributable to Obama?
I don't think the administration will address this until another year or so of reports are released. It could be a freak occurance; I HIGHLY doubt it is attributed to the increase in gun sales OR the new politicians in Washington. Few if any of their legislation has taken effect, and even if they had the effect would be gradual.

Almost all aspects of violent crime have been on a downward swing since the early 90's..
Here's a good graph overlaying a lot of different trend lines (I'll post a link to the page, since the graphic is rather large..)

Here's some great sites to explore for more stats:

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here's an interesting breakdown by region for the 2009 preliminary numbers:
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/2009prelimsem/table_2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Interesting that the south saw the largest decrease in overall violent crime (due to the decrease in robbery, aggravated assault, etc) but has the only + number on the tanks- burglaries up by 0.7%.
