So I was at the mall over the weekend. Decided to hit the head. At the time I was carrying my P226 elite in a universal pancake type holster "appendage style." So I go to the stall and as soon as I finish I start to feel it slip out and go overboard. Before I could grab it it wham hit the ground. The guy in the stall next to me was takin a numero dos and didn't say anything but it was in his "area" and surely saw it. I instinctively grabbed it very quickly shoved it back in my cheap holster and got the heck outta there. (washed my hands first) Boy was I nervous. I mainly carry a Glock19 in a comptac minotaur holster, or a colt new agent in a AJC concealco leather holster. I was feeling adventurous and wanted to carry my fullsize .357. Don't think I'll do that again. Luckily the gun did not sustain any visual damage what so ever and more importantly no one grabbed my pistol. I got very scared thinking of the possibilities. My suggestion, get a GOOD retention device made specifically for your carry gun.

Cheap holsters are just that cheap holsters. Just like with people there isn't a one size fits all. If I had to use a OSFA holster I'd want it to have a thumb break and I HATE thumb breaks.

People spend hundreds sometime thousands of dollars on a handgun and stuff it into a $10.00 "universal" holster. Would you store your new Corvette in one of those tent garages? High quality holsters are available for under a hundred bucks, don't scrimp.

We all want to spend only a small amount for a holster, not to mention finding one that fits like a glove and twice as comfortable is like looking for a unicorn. There are actually quite a few out there in the sixty dollar range that work quite well though.

Years ago I learned first: Never catch a falling knife - same applies to a firearm. Best to cringe and bear it...

+2 or +3 on don't grab a dropped gun. Couple years ago an off-duty cop launched two rounds in a school bathroom while he was attending some event. The articles didn't say, but I would bet some doughnuts that he fumbled while "pantsing," made a wild grab for the gun -- and succeeded.

Well, in this case a rim shot beats a slam dunk.

Some of us find the forum to late and buy a a $600.00 gun and then $1000.00 worth of holsters looking for that "perfect fit".

I appreciate all the input. To be honest I'm kinda embarrased, but anywho. Can't justify the $$$ towards another carry holster. Just gonna keep rolling with my G19 in my Minotaur. I wouldn't be worried if for some reason that one went over board. But not likely to happen in the Minotaur, I love that rig. Combines the comfort of leather with the utility of kedex.

I personally haven't figured out a way to keep a gun in a holster attached to my belt with my pants down. I take the whole Bersa UC9 inside the Uncle Mike #15, and put it on the toilet paper roll, back of toilet, or even lap if I have to; same goes for cell phone. The LCP stays nicely in my front pants pocket.
