Springfield XD-9 vs XD-9 Subcompact
My wife is trying to find a handgun and is having a hard time find one that fits her hand.
We found a XD-9 today that seems to work, but the sales person suggested she try the XD-9 Subcompact to see the difference. Needless to say, we can't seem to find anywhere with one in stock in the DFW area. We checked a few places and I do plan to call around, but I had a question.....
Would anyone know if the grip size and the distance of the trigger would be same on both models with the only difference being that the subcompact barrel and grip is shorter. If they are, then wife would be happy to go with the regular XD-9.
I checked the Springfield website, but I can't find any data on the trigger distance measurement. I guess that's not a measurement that is published.

You are correct. The grip size is the exact same with the exception of the length of the grip.
Nice choice!

Re: Springfield XD-9 vs XD-9 Subcompact
I have owned both and I liked them both equally. I have very small petite hands and had no problems with either one. If she ever plans to carry I would go for the sc. I used my service for IDPA only and then sold it to buy my husband an xd 45 and now have only the sc. The only noticeable difference between the two was learning to shoot with the shorter barrel it made a big difference since I was so used to the longer barrel.

Thanks for the responses. I'll let my wife know and she'll most likely get the regular size.

FWIW, my XD 9 SC was made much more comfortable by the addition of a Pearce Grip Extension ($10) to the 10 round magazine. The XD 9 SC is more easily concealed than my 4" XD .45 Service and is a little lighter.dleewo wrote:Thanks for the responses. I'll let my wife know and she'll most likely get the regular size.

For what it is worth. I have very small hands and the guns with the shortest distance from the center of the backstrap to the trigger are 1911s with a short trigger, Styer M9s, and S&W M&P 9s and 40s. You can trust me on this. I shoot IDPA a lot and these are my choices.

I have one of each in 9mm. If you are not that concearned about concealed carry, get the compact. It is a fine shooter and the magazines are easy to come by.

To dleewo:
You might want to give Bullet Trap a call. They are at 2608 Avenue K in Plano.
972-881-0372.
I was in there yesterday for the first time. They have a large selection of both new
and pre-owned weapons. They had a bunch of XD's but I'm not sure if they have the
9's you are interested in.
The one that caught my eye was an XDM .40, on consignment (used) for only $480.
Of course I realize that one is bigger than your bride wants. But it jumped out at
me as being priced much lower than such an XDM might usually fetch.
Good luck in your search.
