Advice for Face to Face purchases???

I don't worry about it.

If you have every bought one item with a credit card that only a firearms owner would buy (ammo, for instance), the information is out there. Not to forget having a CHL and the associated background checks.

If they know you have one firearm, they can get the rest of the information. I'm told that most people will say or do anything for water after three days or so without it.

I'm with carlson1 on this. I would never sign a paper nor allow you to photocopy my licenses in order to buy or sell.

The most I'm willing to do is allow you to glance at my CHL, and that's it. If the authorities come to you later on asking who you sold the gun to, I don't want you to be able to identify me. It's best for both of us if all you can truthfully say is that, "I sold it to some guy I met on the internets!"

I've bought quite a number of firearms FTF, both at gun shows from private sellers, and from individuals on this board and others. I've never had a bad experience and have met a lot of great people.

It we began a deal and you wouldn't sign a bill of sale, I wouldn't go any further and would be very suspicious of your motives.

Well, at least you know where I'm coming from and what my motives are. The law doesn't require a paper trail and I don't see a reason to voluntarily create one.

If you had to back out of a deal because of that, I would completely understand. There's no danger of that, though, as I'm not buying anymore and I'm certainly not selling.

A typical sale involves the exchange of cash for goods. If you require a bill of sale, a certified copy of the other person's CHL, payment in gold, or any other special conditions, you should specify your conditions from the beginning. For example, when I sold a gun I said "CHL only" and "cash only" in the ad. When I sold it I insisted on seeing their CHL because I put that in my ad from the beginning.

I would be very suspicious of someone trying to change the deal at the last minute.

I exchanged an envelope for a box this week with no paperwork or displays of plastic. Not the first time, probably not the last.

I've bought as many FTF as most and I don't have a hard rule. The last transaction we met in a restaurant parking midway. He brought two original copies of a bill of sale which we both signed. On my part, I provided a sheet with my DL and CHL scanned on it.

In this case, it was more a matter of reassuriing him, not me.

I've done deals with no paperwork at all, sometimes glancing at the CHL's.

Whatever it takes to make you comfortable, but you are worrying too much.

My 2 cents :) I dont see an issue with a bill of sale but I wont provide copies of my DL either. I know its not secret info but strangers dont need to know where I live to steal their money or gun back. Plus if they lose it out in the open then my info is out there for theft as well. I will be more than happy to let you see it but you dont need to study my dl or chl for 2 minutes or so. Granted you see my address when i prove residency via DL but chances are you will forget it later. Members of this board rail about all the limitations the govt tries to stick us with to pursue our rkba but then hypocritically impose their own. I do profile my buyers and have walked away from deals but dont impose such stringent restrictions as mandatory chl. What exactly do you need an ironclad paper trail for? If you sold it then you sold it, a simple bill of sale or even a note in a book should suffice. If you want you can always get their license plates and you probably have their cell and email address as well. I do keep all that in my personal logs when buying or selling.
