The Mil-Spec is a nice gun. I really like mine. Reasonable price for a quailty gun. That's what mine started out like.

I love the Performance Center 1911s. The wavy serrations made it so distinct that you know its a PC1911. Very very nice! Makes me want one. Hahahaha.

WHat kind of a reputation do the Rock Island 1911's have? I am looking to get started with 1911's and don't have a large budget (have already purchased 2 Glocks, a Kel Tec and a S&W 637 in the last six months). I find it ironic that this gun is manufactured in the Phillipines since the 1911 was developed in response to stopping power issues in the Phillipines.

I've heard they are reliable, but I've also heard mixed reviews on them. For a little more, go for a Springfield Armory GI. It's got a life time warranty, and it's a good base gun to start on.

My problem there is that the Springfield in officers size takes a hefty jump in price; the only economical one is the full size GI model. I neglected to mention that I am interested in the Officers Model size.

Nice pistol!

Is the boot knife a Smith & Wesson "HRT"? It looks similar to the one I gave my daughter for purse carry. If so, it has a "false edge" that keeps it legal for this state (along with blade length). Small and light.

When sharpening, I found it didn't take a really good edge...but its basically a thrusting weapon anyway. I wish they would have made the blade just a tad thicker too. Its a sturdy knife, but a little more weight out front would make it easier to roll over into a reverse grip.

I may get another one, its an excellent knife overall for the price.

Here's what you need to know.

Go to the test area. That is where pic posting is explained. I'd point you to the exact page but this forum won't let me.

For some reason all links on this forum only point to http://www.texaschlforum.com/. That needs to be fixed so we can point to a peticular thread within the forum.

If any of you wish to drive by my house and throw your 1911 in my ditch I will happily go to the ditch and claim it as my own.

Yes, it is a S & W but it is a dagger (sharp on both sides), I really did not realize that it was not legal for carry until after I bought it  It just stays locked up in the dang safe

My next acquisition, hopefully within the next week or so will be a 1911. My initial thought was to buy an "officers" size model with the thought of being able to use it as a possible carry gun, but now I am wondering if I should start out with a full size as my first 1911. Wondering if anyone has thoghts on this matter?

Go with a Commander sized 1911. I'm thinking the Officer's is just going to have too short of a grip. The Commander is a nice balance between concealability and shootability.

You mean this link?
How to post pics

(My son showed me how to do this on another forum that was set up in a similar way. Explanation here.)

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me
