I really like it when a guy will bust into a room, and instead of holding the pistol with both hands, will hold it in the right hand, which rests on top of his left forearm. Hard to describe in words, but I think you know what I mean. The funny thing about this pose is that it forces the pistol hand to be significantly bent at the elbow - how it doesn't jam after shooting in that pose i don't know.

In one movie or TV show I saw way back when, the guy actually put the gun UNDER his left forearm instead of over it like all the other movies. It must really hurt to fire that gun in that pose...

Man, now that he mentions it, I remember Jimmy Stewart in Destry Rides Again doing exactly that. In the scene where he finally reveals himself to be a crack shot, he pumps his six-shooters and shoots with no prayer of a sight picture. Yet, of course, he can shoot the wing off a gnat at 15 yards.

I dunno. These were supposed to be SAO revolvers, so maybe the dramatic license was demonstrating a fast hammer-cock and fire. If I were a 50's director and wanted to take dramatic license, I'd much prefer the hammer "fan" technique.

Earlier, I mentioned the movie Shoot 'Em Up, with Clive Owen, as a supreme recent example of getting almost everything wrong. Anybody else see this bizarre flick (definitely rated "R")? Everything is in there from excoriation by carrot to launching into the air from a shotgun blast to the amazingly ridiculous fireplace round-cook-off that's actually a set-piece (a pivotal plot point). I would never rent it again for entertainment, but I'm tempted to have some friends over for barbeque and a competition to see who can find the most physical and procedural gun-related inaccuracies in this film.

Bizarre is right. The whole movie was a spoof on shoot-em-up movies. There was so much "spoof" in the movie I couldn't figure out what, if any, agenda the writers/director might have had. They throw out some gun-control rhetoric but it's hard to take seriously when one of the main characters is a liberal politician trying to take down the "gun nuts" while he's cloning babies to use as spare parts for himself.

I took that movie as puuuuuuuure schlock. nothing to glean from it, one way or the other.
it was fun, though, and I had a good laugh at the rounds in the fireplace bit.
that scene at the end with the bandages and what-have-ya was funny.

The only movie I recall where guys actually were deafened by gunfire is Blackhawk Down. . .

Well, there's also the internalization of sound in Saving Private Ryan, but that was usually from explosions, and was more mental than physiological. There were some scenes where Horvath and Miller were exchanging dialogue during combat in something less than a full roar, but they certainly never spoke in less than a strong speaking voice. And, though not suited to a movie audience, there are a few times where you can't make out what they're saying for all the explosions and gunfire.
