A new IWB holster for a bigger guy......

I am 6'0 and about 265-270. I am lookin for a new IWB for my Sig 226...I have been lookin for like a CTAC or maybe the anwser..what u all think would be a comfortable holster for IWB for a bigger guy....I prefer kydex for ease of reholserting or a real good leather that wont fold when i holster it what u all think......thanks

Don't really have any recomendations for you since you are a lot bigger than I am. The ones you named really carry a good reputation. I will be the first to welcome you to the forum. Welcome to the community.

I'm not quite as big as you but I'm working on it. I don't carry my Sig 226 very often but I have on occasion and I used a Comptac Gurkha IWB worn at approx 4 o'clock position. Very stable and well concealed.

I am a bit bigger than you are and have never found a comfortable way to carry my P226........I know it does not help you in your search, but if you find a way.....please let me know!

I can sympathize with your difficulties in finding an IWB holster that is comfortable for a large man as I am 6'0'' and nearly 400 lbs. I do not carry a SIG, but I do carry a Kimber 1911 in a Kramer horsehide IWB and have carried it all day with only minimum discomfort from the hammer digging into my spare tire at the end of the day.

I'm 6'2" 320 and I carry a Sig 229 not quite a 226 in size but close.

Anyway I carry it in a C-TAC that I modified by cutting off their "body shield" which did nothing but poke and stab me, and glued a piece of thick leather on to the back and cut it to cover the hammer and other pointy areas on the pistol. I initially made this set up just so I could tweak my own holster and then have a better idea of what to look for in a good leather holster, however I haven’t found one equally as comfortable, yet. This setup is comfortable enough to wear sitting 3-4hours at a time. All I use in the way of a cover garment is an under shirt to keep the grips from chaffing my spare-tire and T-shirt 1 size larger than normal in a "Tall" cut, the tall cut really just keeps the me from exposing myself or the pistol when I bend over.

The Tucker Heritage came close but I couldn't adjust it to sit as low as the C-TAC and the body shield is too small for the 229 (looks like it was cut for a 239). I e-mailed Tucker about getting a Heritage customized to fit my needs but I never got a reply, but that was a little before Christmas so I might try emailing him again.

Thanks mschadt, I am smaller than yall but I have a Hoffners that digs me like you said. I am going to try the MOD that you did & see what I come up with. Also I have been wearing suspenders for all my life. When I started carrying I found them to be my best friend. My pants & belt are loose for draw & reholster. I don't have to be girted up tight. They are covered & never seen too because what covers your weapon & mags covers the suspenders. $10.00 at our Army surplus store. All elastic. The all elastic is a must so the will stretch front & back. 1.5 inches wide. They hold the weight of my Kimber compac, 2-10rnd mags, pepper & cell phone on my belt. BUG is Kel-Tec P32 in back pocket, then the things everyone needs, keys, pocket knife, & guitar pic .

Have you looked at Tucker's "The Answer"? It has a leather back, with a Kydex front. The only problem I have with this model is the price. I bet that if you called Tucker on the phone, he'd be happy to help you find something that would work. He was very helpful when I first began carrying.

I am a little fellow at 6'4 - 380lbs. I mostly carry a Colt Combat Commander and sometimes a Kimber CDP Pro. I use the Milt Spark Versa II. It rides about the 3 1/2 or 4 postion.

I've thought about The Answer but I'm trying to get away from kydex. Which is why I tried the Heritage. I had heard that he got his kydex parts from Comp-Tec so I figured his holsters might ride about the same, but I just can't get the adjustments right for me. Not that it matters anymore; with my new sights I can't use that holster anyway.

FYI: Collectors Firearms in Houston stocks most of Tuckers holsters, that’s where I got mine, cheaper than Tuckers website.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Tucker last night. Go figure it was the one night I wasn't wearing one of my Tucker holsters. He was easy to talk to and he is very accomodating when it comes to making holsters for any gun. His prices are a might steep, but they are right on par with some [abbreviated profanity deleted] the other top makers. His product is top notch and IMO worth the price. I have two of his holsters and so far have avoided the dreaded box of holsters.
