.40 S&W - Which gun?
I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket. I'm thinking about blowing it on a full size handgun in .40 S&W, just because I don't own any. What would you buy? Glock, Springfield XD, Taurus 24/7, Taurus PT-100, Hi-point :) , or something else? Are there any that you'd avoid?

You will get a lot of different answers on this one. My preferance of the ones you named is the Springfield XD. My son shoots one & loves it. I have shot it & for a non-1911 it is great. Best thing to do is handle all of them before you buy. If there is any way to shoot one, by all means take the opportunity. My .02 & usually worth about half that.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

If you've got money to burn, the H&K 40cal is nice.

If you are going to buy a Glock in .40 caliber, I think you should try someone elses first! I purchased the 40 caliber with an extended slide (don't remember the model number) and really disliked it. The sights felt like you were looking across a football field! The good news in this story is that I was able to sell the gun used for exactly what I paid for it new in the box! I love Glock, just not this particular model.

You may want to consider the FN HiPowers in 40 S&W from CDNN. They have them in polished blue for $419 I believe. At that price, I'm seriously considering one myself.
Here's the link. You have to download the catelog to find the HiPowers.

I just got back from my range. I met a guy there who just bought the new Smith & Wesson M&P in .40. He let me squeeze a few off with it.
It had to be one of the easier shooting higher calibers i've tried in a while. I really liked it.

And don't forget the 9mm drop-in barrel from BarSto. Works great!HighVelocity wrote:It really depends on HOW MUCH money you are talking about.
If you want THE 40 SW pistol then get yourself a Sig P229 SAS.
Then when you get tired of the 40 you can drop a 357 Sig barrel in
and have some real fun. (that's what I did).
And yes, I do have a 3 caliber P229, just not the SAS.
Kind Regards,
Tom

.40 Cal
I know that perceivedrecoil is largely subjective, but many people find the recoil of the .40 S&W to be much sharper than that of the .45 ACP. The original poster stated that he was beginning to have trouble with the recoil of a .45 ACP in extended range sessions, therefore he may want to avoid lightweight pistols in .40 S&W unlesshe has had a chance to fire it in extended range sessions. I have the Kahr K40 Covert (all steel), and I would not want to shoot a .40 in anything that was lighter.

I own a PT 100 and have been very happy with it. The XD, Sig, Glock, High Power, HK are all fine guns and should be considered. Run, don't walk away from the HiPoint!

I haven't heard about this...bauerdj wrote:Taurus is supposed to be comming out with the PT24/7 Pro which will be DA/SA rather then DAO. I am not real fond of the DAO trigger pull, but the new one might be nice when it finally is available. I would stay away from the High Point.
This might be a chance to trade, or sell what my wife has now, which is that looooonnngggg DAO of hers, and switch to the DA/SA version of the same caliber...
Thats sounds like good news...Did you hear a timeline on the release of these pistols???
Or, if you call Taurus direct will they give you the scoop???
