Atwood's has had the Ruger 556 on sale recently for $499. I'm not an AR guy, but thought about grabbing one of those. Comments?

I compared the Ruger AR556 with the S&W M&P 15 Sport II and found a few things I didn't care for as much on the Ruger. I didn't like the rear sight flip up button and a couple of other small things. I ended up going with a S&W and for the price, couldn't be much happier.

I still wouldn't mind a Colt Trooper but my next AR will be built.

Which Ruger? The MPR or the basic AR556?
The AR 556 is very shootable. The adjustable stock has an excellent range. The trigger is a milspec quality. I shoot mine with iron sites at 100 yards. I can keep my rounds in a 4 inch circle, the gun is more capable than that, I'm not, not without optics.

I haven't shot the MPR though .. Its supposedly made of better quality componants

Just out of curiosity, have you considered either the Springfield Saint w/ Free Float Handguard ($1049), or the Savage MSR15 Recon w/ Free Float Handguard ($999)? MSRP on both comes in at right around $1,000, but I’ll bet that street price would come pretty close to your $700 “maximum”.

Just a thought. Both are reputable gun manufacturers, even if both are pretty new to the AR world. Both guns seem to be well put together.

I’m seeing a Springfield Saint with free Float Handguard on Gunbroker.com for $799, and a Savage MSR Recon for $821.

My buddy is the new owner, It is his 3rd firearms. I hooked him up with USA made Caracal Enhanced F, an RRA 1911 Expert Nickel plated. And, no he wants a Basic M4 clone. I recommended FFloating Barrel but would be happy with something mlike S&W MP Sporter II. At Cabelas, I just manhandled said MP and it felt well built.

I've read some not so good things about Radical Firearms. Thats a shame too, since I really like supporting Texas companies.

Bummed to get negative feedback about Radical. I was hoping for good news. I like local too.

It occurred to me that the next 8 weeks must be a good time to be shopping. I've heard that demand for modern sporting rifles has decreased over the last year. Hunting and holiday seasons are also driving sales.

What do you guys think of Armalite? Cabelas "gun of the week" is an Armalite Eagle-15 ORC on sale for $599.88.

Wish I had more experience to draw from. I'm enjoying semi-lurking this thread.
