I've been to the one in San Antonio, but have not yet visited the one in/near Waco.

Can somebody tell me what Texas rangers carry?

Could that have been a Browning Hipower? They look sort of 1911-ish and have no grip safety.
If he wasn't carrying a HP cocked, he was doing it wrong.

Well I sold a Colt 1911 in 45 so I know what one Ranger is carrying.

Granted, but he could have been carrying a 1911 incorrectly too.....except this particular gun didn't have a grip safety according to the OP. Plus, no self respecting Texas Ranger would carry either gun in any other condition than cocked and locked.........so we know the gentleman in the OP wasn't a Ranger. Could it have been a DA/SA Sig like a P220 which can be carried hammer down for a DA 1st shot?

I've seen Rangers a few times at GT Distributors in Austin. The Western attire and they all seemed very tall.

We just visited the Waco Museum two weeks ago. It's not posted, and I open carried my Officer's
Model with no problems.
I was surprised to see that some of our 20th century Rangers were two gun guys. Displays included
one two gun rig and a pair of engraved Model 19s, and at least two rigs and matched 1911s, one pair
with the trigger guards cut open.
It was a great visit, and highly recommended.

I have seen LE in time past carrying 1911 with the cut out away. Also I remember the Texas Ranger Steward Dowell in Smith County back in the late 70's had a rubber bands around the grip safety. :fire
