Is the 'Techna Clip' legal carry in Texas?

#1

Post by K5CLC »

All,
I'm considering a bodyguard 380 for deep conceal while I wait for the ol' plastic in the mail. I stumbled across the 'Techna Clip' which adds a belt clip to the side of the S&W bodyguard 380, so it directly clips to your pants or belt easily without the bulk of a holster. My question is are they legal in Texas for concealed carry? The wording of the law states it has to be 'holstered' either on the waist or shoulder holster. If I'm missing something please let me know.

Many thanks,
Chris

I'm of the opinion that if it doesn't cover the trigger it's unsafe.

Belt or shoulder holster applies to open carry only.

For concealed carry it just has to be concealed however you want to do it including ankle, stuffed in your britches, etc.
Open carry though requires a belt or shoulder holster.

Well legally you could just carry it in your pocket without anything. As noted though you would have nothing covering the trigger. On the other hand, if your Bodyguard is like mine you need a crow bar to pull the trigger. In general, it's not considered safe unless the trigger is covered. I personally don't like the clip idea.

Please don't disregard safety in the interest of saving a few bucks. If you have a gun on your body, it needs to be in a holster that covers the trigger. I have seen more than one safety disengage in an unintended fashion. I've even had it happen to me. And as for Glocks, there are lots of stories out there about people carrying them in soft sided holsters when an ND happened.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

Thanks for all the replies. I did take the safety of carrying like that into consideration. Its just a question I wanted more experienced subject matter experts to chime in on. The 380 is so small it can go in a pocket holster, or a tiny IWB holster just as well and never be seen. Thanks again.

Drawer of Holsters!!!??? Lol, Heck I can't even decide on a carry weapon much less! I bounce from the idea of a tiny bodyguard 380 but I really hate the idea of leaving my favorite 9mm round, then i think .. well, a shield... ooh no, the glock 26! oh but wait, the Kel-Tec P11 or PF9 is much cheaper, but then i could carry the 3913 i do have. lol. A decent lotto windfall and i'm buying all them!!!

Just give in and go full size Glock or 1911 with a light attached and two spare mags. :evil2:
