my first 1911. I have had Springfield xd's prior to this in 9mm

Paid $758 with tax at Atwoods for full size Ruger SR1911.

Since this is your first one, I would go for reliability over features, if you enjoy the 1911, which you will, your collection will grow to more feature/style rich versions.

As mirrored, go for a Springfield that fits in your budget. If you cant find one in your budget, go for Rock Island. Some Rock Islands have improved parts over GI style, but you may eventually upgrade some parts for repair or to your taste. I think the Remington R1 still has a rebate going in the standard R1 GI style.

Im not a fan of Series 80, so i stay away from those. I also prefer enhanced over GI style. I have an SR1911 Lightweight Commander that ive had issues with, but once worked out its my favorite. My RIA has had the ejector snapped once, but it shoots wonderfully. My SW im waiting on repair back for the 3rd time

This started yesterday. I shot a S&W 1911 SC and fell in love. Very point and shoot. It shot exactly where aimed. The trigger being so light compared to the XD Mod 2 I have was incredible. I was surprised to find even my wife loved it. She has complained about her forearms being tired with a 9mm. I never thought should would love a 45. It was just a pleasure to shoot. I'm not looking for anything with a lot of frills or overly BLINGED. I want a reliable gun that shoots nice.

I've heard enough bad things about the Remington to stay away from those
If you don't want a beaver tail then go milspec Springfield
Otherwise the rock island tactical is solid, but honestly I'd watch out for a sale in a range officer.
Grabagun has the 9mm range officers for roughly 705 usually with the .45 being a bit more

Weird, Buds has them for $679 with free shipping? I bought mine for $575 I think when they first came out, so they have increased in value some.

I'll happily recommend Rock Island Armory all day long but if you can get in a SA Range Officer or similar I would go that route simply for the nicer finish and the like.

I wasn't going to bring it up, but you read a lot on the net. I have never owned a 1911. Is it reliable enough for a CCW? Does it require all the tweaking you read about?
