DIY retention strap

Ok, so my carry gun is an xds-9. I got the nice OWB holster with it. Now that open carry is less than 2 weeks away I may finally be able to use it, but I want a retention strap. The included holster doesn't have one. I'm thinking of using a leather strap, and using a rivet gun to attach the strap and "button" to the holster. Any thoughts?

I have an xds .45 with an aliengear owb that I wish had retention, I get nervous on the motorcycle that it will pop right out.

I bought a leather thumb break owb for my mil g2 that fits the xds nicely but the AG is more comfortable.

I too have a leather OWB I want to add a strap to.
I recently learned that Tandy Leather has free classes that will help you with projects like this.

I'm going to go that way or contact the seller. I got it from mojo leather via this website and see if they can add one on. Excellent holster by the way.

Be sure to take pictures too!

1) Designed and implemented such that you can actually operate it if/when you HAVE TO .
2) Be careful of your rivet attachment points, such that you don't scrape/mar your xds unnecessarily.

Hand stitching isn't hard and with a few simple tools is easy to do and stronger than machine stitching. Might be a better deal than rivets.

Ask the folks at a leather shop. Some offer leatherworking classes, and some will do minor things at cost - or free.

If you can't find a leather shop, maybe a shoe repair place. They may even be able to stitch it for you with their machine for a few bucks.

Right, stitching is what I had in mind, I don't want any metal rivets in there.

I just did some stitching for the first time on an old leather holster, to turn it into a pocket holster. And it turned out dandy.
