"Recent Topics" Feature: Stay or go?

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I added a feature that will display five threads that have the most recent posts. I'm not sure if I like it, but it's what the Members like that counts. I'll keep it or take it down, depending upon responses in this thread. I'm most concerned with mobile users; I don't want to cause them a problem.

I use the "New posts" feature, so it doesn't make much difference to me, but I did notice a thread in "Recent Topics" that I made sure I'd look for.

I like it, not a fan of the responsive theme tho. Over all the site seems to be working well though, nice work.

Whatever you did made the site usable to me on a mobile device. Short of enabling tapatalk this is the best thing you could do for me to continue to use the site. Thanks

I like it. It'll take me a little time to get used to it, but so far so good. If it works like I think it does, it will be a time saver to those who frequent this board daily.

Is this something that happened with the software upgrade, or only after I added the Recent Topics feature? This is the first time I've heard from anyone not being able to see the Forum on a mobile device. It works on my Android devices and I'm pretty sure others are using iPhones, iPads, etc.

I just added a 10 day poll. If you vote then change your mind, you can change your vote. I'm only keeping it up for 10 days in case it causing problems for Members.

It's sort of a "The Most Active Topics" area. I think it's good, because a topic that's being heavily discussed will bubble up to it.

If it could be a user preference then keep it, I personally don't care for it. I primarily look at unread topics first, then choose what I want to look at.

This is how I use the site: I set my browser bookmark to "View New Posts." I scan the list and read anything that is of interest. If it has been a while, I will also flip to "View Your Posts" to see if I need to check up on a previous discussion in which I was involved. The new Recent Topics thing is of no use to me because I already see the new topics and I prefer to scan a longer list that captures a better part of the day than the top five will capture.

Agreed,

further:
the thing I would like is for "mark all forums read" to be available in the quick links list (it's even harder to find after the update as it has moved down the page (and it's only available on one page)
You may have the last word.
