BobCat wrote:I agree with WildBill. Just as the best way to deal with a bully is to ignore him, the best treatment for goofy trolls is to leave the bait lie.

And... if someone posts an outlandish or extreme scenario, at least the Forum membership gets to read some amusing fiction and decide whether or not to spend/waste time responding.
I agree with both WildBill and BobCat.

I understand Gigag04's frustration after some of our recent experiences, but after thinking about his suggestion, I've concluded that spending time creating a new rule would also commit us to spending more time adjusting it repeatedly as folks get further jollies by trying to maneuver around it and watching us react. I think the simpler course of just keeping our Troll/Bunk Detectors activated and set to medium, and then acting accordingly, will address the situation nicely.

Newbies will ask less sophisticated questions than folks who've been around a while, and that's OK. Many will go on to become knowledgeable active contributors.

We've got a deep reservoir of good old fashioned horse sense on this Forum. The stories that are phonied up will reveal themselves pretty quickly in just a few posts when details are explored.

I think we as a group can continue to do a pretty good job of both giving a new member the benefit of the doubt while there's a reasonable possibility of legitimacy, and invoking TAM's Bunk Button when that's clearly called for.

"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" is a grammatically correct sentence, though I have no idea who would ever think of using it. Proof here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_bu ... lo_buffalo

No say that ten times fast! :biggrinjester:

SlickTX wrote:OK, so here is how it went down. Here is the really scary part, after I called the police and they promptly showed up 45 minutes later the first thing they did was take away my phone, remove the SIM card and the battery and then the officer locked my phone, the SIM card and the battery in the trunk of my car. I'm like "whoa, dude, are you leaving me out here without the protection of my phone?" Well he didn't like that and proceeded to chew me out for, like, and hour or so.
The exact same thing used to happen to me all the time. It hasn't happened once ... since I switched to Verizon.

Generally speaking, no.

They teach typing, not editing.
They teach literature, not grammar.
They teach whatever is currently politically correct, not debate.
They teach report-writing, not logic.
They teach citizenship, not patriotism.
They teach how to regurgitate, not how to think.

Not only that, but a lot of people can't do math without the aid of a calculator.

A few grammatical and spelling mistakes I can handle. No one's perfect, we're not all English majors or professional editors.
