Has anyone received an invitation for a June CHL instructor class from DPS yet? I had heard that was going to be the next offering.

That does not leave someone a whole lot of time to arrange the week off.
How many students are typically in one of these CHL Instructor classes?

They are trying to limit the classes to 80 due to the room size. It was a little crowded...but not bad. That is assuming they are using the Chamber of Commerce room again.

It will be interesting to see how the DPS recommends Instructors teach the new 4-6 hour class compared to the 10 hour. Please post your experiences with that and any other changes they discuss. New classes continue to be one of the earliest ways we learn of how the DPS likes things done.
And Congratulations on getting in!

Yep...being held at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce meeting room.
Will be sure and post any new information...should be interesting with the legislature finishing up right before the class.

Doesn't Perry still have to sign the bill? If it is anything like my better half's class, you might start with 80 but you won't end with 80. Long before they got to the range portion, several people were dropped from the class. They watch conduct and behavior.

They require that everyone have a chance to learn so they do warn you that disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. But that does not mean it is not a friendly atmosphere. The class is very enjoyable and you will see they really care about the CHL program and support the right to carry. Be prepared for the range portion by being well versed in the operation of the guns you choose to bring. The range is conducted with the utmost professionalism and safety practices.

If you have not practiced on "turning targets", and you have a place where you can, I suggest you spend some time with them. This was my first experience with them. It was a little distracting to say the least. Preparing to shoot, waiting for the target to turn, then that little clock in your head telling you to "hurry up before it turns away!"
Don't get me wrong. You have plenty of time to shoot, but if you haven't done this before....it is a little distracting!

I agree with THAT! My first shots were with revolver from 3 yards and those were my worst shots...just getting used to being nervous and those targets turning. I missed "X" by 5 or 6 inches inches from 3 yards. But you do get used to it soon. The stress and tension goes away in a few shots. My advice...HAVE FUN! It's a great experience there at the DPS range!

I have a invitation to the June class and it is at the Chamber of Commerce building in Georgetown. It was a long wait as I originally applied in December.

Congrats to all who made it into the June class!!
I second to practice with the turning targets before you go, and make sure your ammo is SAMMI. DPS will actually pull your ammo tray out of the box and inspect it before they allow it to be fired on the range. And if you have a Sig, make sure you know what the de-cocking lever is!!
