Yes,
The facility is nice, plenty of parking and some places you can walk to and eat during lunch. Yesterday we didn't have tables, but today they rearranged and we had them. AC is good. They will let you adjust it if folks need it. They have plenty of snacks and drinks with an honor system in a cigar box.
We are staying at the LaQuinta. It is only about 3 minutes from the Chamber building where the classes are held. It is quite so far. The property is not a new one, but it is clean and nice. The staff are nice and friendly. No complains by me.
The class is going fine. There are some folks that ask way to many questions. I honestly don't think that some of them even read through the material that was sent to us, and some don't know the CHL laws at all it seems. Makes me wonder how the heck they are actually going to teach this stuff.
The DPS instructors are great. The legal staff was pretty good for what they have to do, very boring stuff, and they really can't give you answers to some questions. The ladies from the CHL department were good, folks just needed to listen to them better as they covered the material well, but some folks either didn't get it, didn't listen or didn't read.
The Captain today was a hoot, kept stuff flowing, and kept the class interesting.
All in all, things are good. From the comments of the main instructor, it appears this will be the new home of the CHL instructor school.

The place is really nice and the instructors are good at what they do. As to the people who keep asking the same stupid questions over and over
Lets just say i feel bad for anybody they even attempt to "instruct". Im staying at holliday inn express north austin and besides seeing two drug deals in broad daylight and the numerous hookers the hotel is amazing.

Well, then you're already an instructor!

Maybe a little off topic, but I am curious as to what they are telling current classes about fingerprinting. Whether they are encouraging (or discouraging) new instructors to get on the approved list for "rolled" prints"?

They are encouraging the electronic prints because they have a 98 percent acceptance rate.
However, they realize that there are places where electronic aren't available yet such. They also realize that there are times when electronic prints don't work as well.
So if your still doing paper prints or plan on doing paper prints your good to do, probably for several years if not longer.
One thing that did come across in their presentation is that when things are done electronically, whether it is the application process, the affidavids, or whatever it is generally faster, and more accurate than processing paperwork.
Welcome to the electronic age. Feds, and state govs are moving that way with just about everything. I don't think the trend will turn back to paper.

The two women that gave the forms training on Tuesday in the afternoon were the rudest most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. If not fired they should never be allowed to present in front a CHL instructors class again, they were totally disrespectful to an older gentleman in the class asking a question, amongst other ridiculous behavior, the lead women threatened the class pretty much throughout the class then went off on the class at the very end. I will be filing a formal complaint with DPS after the class is over next week and with my State Representative. They were utterly ridiculous and childish in their behaivor. I will go as far as to say they acted pathetic.
The Officers hosting the course are awesome and should be commended for a job well done, they are great instructors and have made the class a great learning experience.
To clarify it was not the two women attorneys on Monday, they did a good job. It was the two women on Tuesday giving the forms training.

Texas1234,
What irritated you so much about what they did? I don't recall them being rude to anyone in particular.
I do recall them basically telling people to shut up and quit talking amongst themselves before the presentation was finished. I do recall them getting a bit flustered when people asked the same question that was just asked or when material was just covered.
I do think some folks ask questions just to hear themselves talk, or they aren't paying attention to what the heck is going on in the class.
Heck some of the stuff being asked makes me mad. This stuff ain't rocket science, most of it we should already know if we are sitting in the class.
Anyway, only one more day of classroom, and a couple of hours on the range.

The business about someones dad being a preacher seemed odd. But the thread then seemed to get back ontopic.

There are always "special" people in classes...
