What does it take to qualify for 28hr course instead of 40hr

I am in the process of applying for my CHL instructor license and noticed the dates of the 40 hr class conflict with a family vacation.
I could make the 28 hr course though. In the PDF on the site it states that you must qualify for the 28hr course. What does it take to do so?
I am already a CHL holder. Would that work in my favor?
Sorry if this has been answered before. I could not find it in the search.

POST certified handgun instructor, or NRA Basic Pistol Instructor will get you into the abbreviated class.

At least, that is what I seem to remember from my first time... which was more than a day or two ago, and I'm old, memory is not what it used to be, and it may have changed. :???:

I suggest you email or call the DPS helpline. Marion will answer your question. Not necessarily quickly, but she WILL answer.

I hope Dan Walker is no longer then instructor for the course. I was bounced out of the class because I had 51 holes in my target. He wasn't interested in that some one had 49. I was told the person that did that was in "law enforcement " and could NOT make mistakes. I would have to do the 40 hour course since I questioned his authority and I was being flunked. I had told him I questioned his MATH, not his authority. :mad5

I was in the short class in 95,and was allowed for being a USAF instuctor at one time.Walker was the head guy and strict.I saw one guy moved out of the short class for firing 3 instead of 2 on the 2shot -3 shot exersise. That one shot cost him 2 more days in Austin ,at his own expense.I do not think that they are as rough now,but should be. How can you teach someone,if you cannot do right yourself?

Prior experience in teaching firearms. I had 10 years in with teaching LEOs when I started in 1995, so I was in a short class. Now my partner had experience with teaching in IDPA and he had to do the 40 hour course.
