I attended the El Paso class so it doesn't matter to me, but have several instructor friends that haven't been to class yet and wanted to go ahead and get the proficiency done. I emailed DPS to ask this exact same question.paperchunker wrote:From the class notification email:
You will be permitted to demonstrate proficiency with any certified Texas CHL Instructor at a later date. Further instruction regarding proficiency demonstration will be provided during the class. (emphasis mine)
Will DPS accept proficiency demonstration done prior to attending the class ?
First reply: "You will be requested to demonstrate proficiency with any certified Texas CHL Instructor at a later date. Further instruction regarding proficiency demonstration will be provided during the class".
I thought maybe they didn't understand what I really wanted to know so I emailed again, explaining the situation more clearly and specifically asking if it matters whether the class or proficiency is done first. The reply: "Instructors are required to attend a renewal class prior to demonstrating proficiency."...and in the email they underlined "prior to".
Could just be bureaucratic confusion - there's plenty of that going around when it comes to instructor renewals...
