What about renewals?

#1

Post by switch »

Had a student. CHL expired in Feb. His daughter 'renewed' online for him (he was in hospital). He got a letter 2 weeks ago, NOT his 3rd renewal. He needed a CHL-100.

I gave him 2, one new form and one old renewal. Told him to send both. That he might have to pay $25 (vet) and get printed again. :(

I have a renewal who did her on-line application about 2 weeks ago, we are doing her shooting tomorrow morning. Another also did his on-line application back in mid-August. He is planning on taking a class and shooting in about 2 weeks. Since I did not hear for sure about not needing the proficiency we did not know what was going to happen.

Sent a request for info into the RSD line, but will not hear until next week if that quickly.

My DIL's license expired in May, she has had the class but hasn't shot, I do not believe she has done her on-line application. I am telling her to just sign up on-line.

Feel like it would have been nice to have more timely information.

Why do you thinks she does not need to shoot?

The law is pretty clear, if your CHL expires, you have to start all over. Actually, not much of a penalty. License fee is double (unless you are a vet) and have to get prints.

I'm curious how DPS will handle applications started prior to 9/1. They've indicated they do not considered them 'filed' until complete. If you processed online, you still have not 'filed' until they get the CHL-100, if needed.

In the case yesterday, he thought it was his third renewal and he didn't need a class. DPS wrote back on 8/12 that it was only his 2nd and he needed a renewal but only had 90 days from that letter.

So I am confused, which is nothing new...

This will be my first renewal and I will be submitting it after yesterday's law changes.

Do I or don't I need to take a renewal course?

There are no more renewal classes for the CHL as of September 1, 2013.
This includes shooting Qualification. Go online and renew before your expiration date
and be happy. :tiphat:

We are talking about instructors and there is going to be a class held in Houston for those. Just trying to make sure only the instructors that have to renew this year have to attend or if all of us instructors have to.

We are? The original post talked about a student's possible 3rd renewal -- which doesn't have anything to do with instructor renewal. Maybe I'm confused, too. :headscratch

Pretty much all instructors have to renew this year. There are a few that became instructors this year whose certificate expires in 2015 that will not have to renew, but everyone will. New instructors that get certified in even numbered years only get a 1 year certificate the first time.
