Instructor Updates

Post by Crossfire »

Instructors - just a heads up, probably a reminder of things you already know since you are on the forum, but not everyone knows these things, so please pass it on.

We just had to do an emergency range qualification for an instructor that did not know his certification had expired. Just because you paid the renewal fee, and got the confirmation does not mean you have been renewed. In particular, he failed to take the online exam, so he did not complete the renewal process.

All instructor certificates expired on Dec 31, 2011. All of them. If you did not receive a new certificate in the mail, you did NOT complete your renewal.

If you did not renew before Dec 31, 2011, you have to requalify with another CHL instructor. This could be a problem if you are not friends with another instructor, or you are in a rural area.

The other thing you need to know is, as of Jan 1, 2012, the old CHL-100 form will not be accepted by DPS. If you have done a class in Jan, and used the old form, your student is going to get it back from DPS, as it will not be valid.

DPS says they are drafting an email to go out to all instructors to inform them. It will probably go out next week. Hmmm, better late than never.

All instructor certificates expired on Dec 31, 2011. All of them.

My certificate clearly states that I'm valid till December 31, 2013. Are you saying that DPS is cutting that short, or am I not understanding something?

No, just a reminder to all Instructors that we need to finish our renewal process in order to stay an Instructor. All Instructors had til 12/31/11 to complete the renewal process. If you just became an Instructor your ok, it was the pre existing Instructors that needed to do this.

I think you're misunderstanding. All instructor certificates expire on the same date, regardless of whether they're new 1 year, new 2 year, or renewals. That's different than the CHL which expires on the licensees birthday.

If you renewed last year, your renewal is good until December 31, 2013. The same expiration date as all renewals last year.

Instructor certificates that were issued in 2011 do not expire until Dec. 31, 2013.

Sorry, should have clarified that I did not mean those who were certified in 2011. You do have 2 years on the instructor certificate.

Panic averted.
