Instructor Renewal timeframe

#1

Post by match308 »

After the initial Instructor certification (mine was 6/2007), when would I need to renew? I went to the DPS website to start the renewal process, as I swear I was told two years, but it won't let me and tells me I am not in my renewal period.

I imagine you will get a different answer after the first. We all renew in the odd years, only.

You will get a card in the mail and than you will be directed to go online. I doubt they have the dates for re-certs as of yet.

If like recent renewals, a one-day deal, with options sometime between August and December '09.

I sent an e-mail to Marion Stahl asking when renewal notices would go out. As soon as she replies I will post it here.

Just received note back from Austin. Stating "They printed yesterday, so you should be receiving them in the next week or two." We will see.

Got the letter (dated 1-26-09) in the mail yesterday, did the online stuff and paid with debit card this morning ... Guess they'll get to operate on that $100 for at least 6 months ....

I got my letter from DPS today. When we get the renewal schedule, we should try to get a group to attend on the same day. We could go to Austin a day early and have dinner together.

You'll be fine; there are a lot of renewal classes. It will be interesting to see if we can forgo the trip to "Austin" and renew online. The DPS Sunset bill will go into effect on Sept. 1st and there is a requirement that DPS make an online class available so instructors can use it every other renewal. I'm not sure if that provision had a delayed effective date to allow DPS to come up with an online course.

yea I called today and they are mailing me out a packet. Thats good to know Chas. That would be awesome to renew online. I had no idea that was in the works! But I have been out of the loop recently.

I just wish I didnt have to do the packet thing 2 times this year. UGH! My CHL expires April 2010 so I assume I'll be doing another packet for my CHL in November approx.

The one thing about Austin that would be fun is if a bunch of us could meet up at a class!
